Per Toyota's site the all weather mats have been recalled for the 2004-2009 Prius. Picked up my car today and the dealer said they were unable to include all weather mats as they had been recalled. Even for the 2010. This per a service advisory they received from Toyota. A few weeks ago both cargo and floor mats were on sale at priuschat.com. Visited today and only the cargo mat is on sale. Is there a recall for all weather floor mats for the 2010 Prius?
Looks that way I purchased the all weather cargo mats the other day and the Toyota dealer would not sell me the all weather floor mats What amazes me is that I have been driving for well over 40 years and mats have always been a problem bunching up I don't understand why the sudden fear of mats. Our other car is a Subaru with a retention clip for the mat. The retention clip is worn after 6 years, and I have to adjust the mat periodically to make sure it does not move to far forward. I think that is called personal responsibility! I do not understand the sudden big deal with mats. I then thought it might have to do with the push button start/stop button and without a key a paniced person might not realize they have to hold the button in to stop the car. Then I heard Toyota might have to recall 3.5 million cars. I do not think there are 3.5 million cars with push button start/stop. (?) Seems like an over kill to me.
In general, our culture's tolerance for a bunch of fatalities here and there has been steadily declining. Many things that used to be OK, are not longer OK. This trend has been going on for well over a century. A half century ago, 150 deaths per day on the highway was tolerable. No longer. We still slaughter over 100 per day, but per-capita and per-mile, the death rate has dropped sharply. While 'personal responsibility' is a nice concept, quality control research has found that humans are very prone to error, and when this is the primary method of safety or quality control, the failure rate is always very high. Tort law is a separate issue ...
Okay, so here's the million dollar question... What do I do with the all weather mats I ALREADY bought and received from priuschat.com? Have they been recalled? I didn't see the 2010 Prius on the recall list? And if the mats are a hazard, how and what do I do with the mats I already have? And, please...don't tell me to return them to priuschat.com. The shipping costs would be very expensive and would hardly compensate me for the total cost of the mats.
Better call the Hazmat Team!! Or just get yourself some zip ties and fasten them to the front of the seat. Then you can call yourself a Toyota Engineer!
Got my all-wx mats for the 2010 a day before this all started. They ARE clipped in. Do I have to wire-tie 'em, duct tape 'em and staple 'em to the floor? Sheesh! I agree that this may be a little over-kill, if it is the REAL problem, at all! Loren
This sucks in a major way. I have been waiting, as many others have, for Weathertech to make mats and exact-fit liners available for 2010. They have repeatedly put off availability questions with "one to two more months." Now they are, probably, needlessly nervous about all this. My V is due to arrive (maybe this week) and I guess I'll have to buy some local crap to get through the upcoming winter season.
