so... i stupidly walked out with a car with no alarm.. and now i need to find someone who can install. any thoughts of anyone good in houston? i live on the southwest side of town.. also any thoughts of good tinters too? thanks so much.. i love this forum
Was there a "dealer" alarm system aleady in the car when you bought it? And, you did not want to pay the (overly costly) $500 that the dealer wanted to put the "customer" chip in it? You could just go back and have it activated? Or, maybe you want a "real" full-function alarm, with 2-way paging? I guess you will need to find somebody who knows what wires to connect to in the 2010 Prius.
You can get the RS3000 chip online for 280, install it yourself and ask dealership to activate it. ( I heard it cost around $60 bucks and 5 mins for them to do it) I am getting my Prius by the end of this month and that is what I am thinking to do. Since the Alarm is no longer a option when you get the car. So for us to have the Toyota VIP RS3000 in there will need parts + 2 hrs of laber which is 218 to get it install. I think it will be around 350 plus tax if you order the parts from dealer. If you don't install it youself you are looking for about 500+ for your alarm.
thanks so much. i am actually calling the dealer to see what options there are. i would hire someone to install and do it all, but with it being all electrical.. i am just scared. thanks so much.
I got the pdf files for the instruction to install the Alarm (official toyota instruction). Other than take plastics parts down to get to where those wires goes, 98% of the time just plug the original harness in the car to the harness from the alarm and then back to the car. It like unplugging and plugging most of the time instead of cutting wires and connect them back kind of work. Search for the topics that takes about the VIP RS3200 and get the pdf from there. Someone told me it only takes around 1hr to install it. And the instruction is step by step. It seems like it shouldn't be hard at all.
