What tires did you get on your 2010?

    The manufacturing date is on the tyre. It gives the year and the week it was made.

    Yep, top of the line model in The Netherlands. Standard with 17" wheels, leather, HDD navigation, LED, adaptive cruise control etc. Wouldn't be surprised if this is the most complete "standard" model available anywhere outside Japan.

    Now we have all this data, are there any conclusions?
    Have any of these tires been reviewed/rated? (Consumer Reports had a tire review in the latest edition but didn't include the specific ones listed here, at least, not the Yokohama Avid S33, which are the usual ones for the 15" wheels).

    Yes, just a bit noisy. You will find the Proxes R30 on new cars only.

    Michelin Primacy MXV4 available in Prius V size in Oct 2010

    My Prius V is to arrive inside of two weeks, and I've been researching all the tires reported to come in that model. I find all of them deficient in "all-weather-ness." In TireRack's GT All-Season list, the Michelin Pilot HXMXM4 is 18th of 19, and Bridgestone Turanza EL400 is 21st among 27 in their Touring All-Season list.

    So I have been considering an immediate tire exchange for a safer tire. The local Discount Tire will offer a trade-in price (unspecified until they see the tires) to get a new set. So far I've been leaning toward the General Altimax HP (2/18 in the TR GT Touring All-season list, a lot lower in Consumer Report's new All-Season list, with average rolling resistance). The 215/45R17 size limits availability of highly ranked A/S tires.

    The Michelin Primacy MXV4 is top-ranked in the respective lists at TR and CR, and CR rates it excellent in rolling resistance. In response to my inquiry, Michelin said my size will be introduced in October, 2010. So now I'm thinking about toughing out at least one winter, maybe more if this one goes OK, before switching to them. We will be keeping the 2001 Audi A4 Quattro, which is a champ in snow--this may be the decisive factor.

    Safety is, of course, more important to me than ultimate mileage. This will be a winter influenced by an El Nino in the Pacific, which always means a wet and snowy winter here in NM. When La Nina occurs, we get dry and mild winters.

    So what do you think?
