rattle from driver side dash

wow, i'm not the only one! for me it only happens in certain speeds and road conditions; can't consistently reproduce it. it's soft but noticeable. if i lightly pound on the area above the vent then i can hear a rattle. when i go in for my first oil change i plan to ask the dealer to take a look at it.

 

I can't help you with the rattle but my GENIII is also rattling at several places (from dash 2 doors...) What i can't understand is that toyota produces such an innovative car and can't manage to make it 'rattle-free' inside...
Don't these japanese guys do several severe tests on this before launching this things ???
Nice car but it's interior sounds make me crazy !
Only thing i can do at the moment is put the volume on 30 so i don't hear all those things :-/

 

Please check the prop rod under the hood. That has been the culprit for many rattles!

 

Just adding to the list I have it in my Prius IV I was kind of thinking it was the latch mechanism of one of the glove boxes but have not verified that. I need to get the wife to drive while I check it out, problem is she is not keen to drive my "Starship"

I have a similar rattle which occurs more often when the temperature drops. At times it occurs on both sides. I am anxious to hear what you find. Please have your dealer take photos.

 

the problem went away by the time i went to the dealer, which was frustrating; it does come and go. he did notice that my hood was making some noise; a part of it was loose (the hinge on the left side? not sure what it's called), and after tightening it went away.

hmm blueumbrella, it's only starting to get colder down here in Texas, but it is still fairly warm. I guess I'll see what happens in November/December.

 

Are there gaps around the black border and the side pillar panel or is the panel pressed against the small glass/black border there?

What did they have to remove ?
Maybe this can be helpfull for indicating towards my dealer.

same problem here in Euro version , i noticed that u cn hear the sound if u tap on the dashbord but if u push the dash in the front direct and u tap the sounds disappear.
I will remove all dashbord next week

 

Great Thread everyone! Thanks for the helpful info. I'm making a list of all the rattles I currently am hearing. I'm pretty sure I can hold off until my first check-up, but if things get worse I may bring it in. Some rattles are definitely forgivable since they occur only under certain conditions, but the driver side dash rattle seems a little more regular.
