:cussing: :cussing: :cussing: As I was closing the hatch, a can of fix a flat somehow got into the perfect position under the metal latvh and ruptured. I've got dried crusty schmegma on my cargo floor mat and also down the outside of my Tabasco. I've washed it with regular carwash stuff and it hasn't come off. Is there any hope or am I screwed?
Yikes what a freaky accident. Have you tried Goo Gone on the outside of the car? I believe I've read here on PriusChat that is safe for the paint (better read the bottle first, though). You may be able to use it on the cargo mat as well. Good luck.
[font=Comic Sans MS:79a05d72b6]On other Toyotas I've used lighter fluid (naptha) to remove stubborn gunk without removing the finish. Be gentle and don't rub too hard, no matter what you use. You don't want a hazy patch surrounding a nice shiny spot where the goo was. Be sure and clean well and wax after you get it off. For the carpet, if it's removable, you could dryclean it. Or try putting dry ice on the gunk and chipping off the hard chunks, then cleaning. Good luck![/font:79a05d72b6]
Turtle Wax and others make a "Bug/Tar/Paint Remover" that should work on the exterior. I've used it when I've run through fresh paving, or over freshly painted highway stripes. It's a volatile hydrocarbon based cleaner, and should be used carefully according to directions, but it shouldn't harm the car's paint. Be careful with bumpers and such though. Once you've gotten it clean, you really should apply a good wax or polymer to the paint instead of leaving it 'stripped'
Bigbaldcuban, If you're not having any luck, i'd suggest posting your question on this forum: http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/detailing/ The folks on this car care forum include professional detailers who are gonna have an answer.... Good luck,
I used Orange "Goo Gone" gel and the fix a flat glop came off the exterior paint relatively easy, but if I stare closely enough, there is still a faint outline of the original mess. I'll try it on the floormats today.
Using GooGone, make sure that you thoroughly wash that area that you've used it on. After a while, if there's a trace of GG left, it will ruin your paint. Use Dawn to get it and any trace of the fix a flat residue off, and just rinse it thorougly afterwards. Dave.
It will take the wax off too. That will leave it looking like there is a streak on your paint. Detail that area to return it to normal looking.
