Yesterday test drove a V but did not like the color. Fortunately a V came in today that matches our first color choice. Happy us. Looks like tomorrow we will make the purchase. Salesman is trying to sell us: 1. Extended warranty 2. Paint protector I have always heard that you don't need these features. Been a long time since I bought a new car. Are these features worth the extra cost? Thanks. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow.
By paint protector you mean the 3m film? Or a sealant application? Personally, I would not go for either. The 3m film isn't necessarily bad, I just do not like the look of the lines upon close inspection. And a sealant you can do yourself for considerably less than what a dealer charges. And the extended warranty is really up to you. how long do you plan on keeping the car? How many miles do you drive a year? For me, it's not worth it so I never consider them. Plus it is a Toyota lol.
Extended warranty is piece of mind but not necessary at time of purchase you have 3 years or 36K miles to decide and can get it from troy on here, he sells the 7year 100K mile for around ~$1050, and you can get up to 8 year 125K miles also but price is around ~$1,650. So if your dealer price is close then up to you, otherwise do not get it from your dealer. Paint protection ? Only thing I can recommend is a clear bra, ~$600 or have a local tinting/clear bra installer do it for around that or less. I have this on both my 2010 Prius's. Best of Luck Please post pictures Don Edit: I just noticed !!!!!!WELCOME!!!!!!! :welcome:
Think hard before you turn down the 7year 100K mile for around ~$1050. If "anything" happens.... anything at all, it will pay for itself. My window decided to stop working right... that was 850.00 I had my display screen go out..... are you sitting down?... If so, I'll tell you how this works!..... A new one would have cost "me" 6800.00. A refurb would have cost "me" 3800. Extended coverage insurance paid for it and it they paid only 1600.00! Sounds almost like our health coverage eh? Point is..... if you have no insurance, they stick a higher charge for you to pay out of pocket.... so don't think it won't pay for itself. Think of it as insurance for the next 7 years.... divide 1050 by 7 years... thats pretty cheap! If you don't believe in an extended warranty, you don't believe in insurance either.... good luck if anything happens without it!.. both in medical for your body or for your car!
I bought the 8-year 100,000 mile "Premium" warranty "extension" (I believe) and (over)paid $2000 for it. But, just one non-covered repair after 36,000 miles would probably pay for it. So, "ouch!" (unexpected and expensive), but some peace of mind for a one-source, expensive-tech car, is what I thought at the time.
If your not over 36K yet, its pretty simple to cancel and get refunded for the time you didn't use and then purchase another.
