Safety is 50% depending on the driver(you). The other 50% is what you should worry about because other drivers make mistakes. My niece's Civic got hit side way at intersection. The other driver was at fault. Luckily I bought her the 2006 Civic that came with side/curtain airbags. That decision probably saved her life. She walked away with scratches. P.S. The other vehicle hit her side (not the other).
Liberal amounts of tin foil wrapped around the head will help that. Just make sure you poke a couple of eye holes.
