Prius driver's seat rail extenders

I am having the exact same problem. Is there any solution to fitting a person 6'5" and above in the driver's seat?

 

I am really curious if there is a way to make the seat go back any further, such as a modification to the rails. I love my new '08 Prius, but the only thing I am not satisfied with, is the driver legroom. Especially since my commute is an 1:15 to work and 1:30 on the way home. I feel quite cramped.

I searched for "Prius seat extensions" and found a lot. I knew they were there after reading some of them in the past.

 

Yes, this has been previously discussed a lot.

I think the short of it is that you can either modify the seat so it's higher or modify the track so it's further back. nyprius seemed to have the best advice -- go to a handicap car retrofitter, as they are the most experienced for modifying car seats. See this thread (among many others):

It seems to me that it would be fairly easy for a DIY seat rail extension or raising using statndard steel L-shaped rails available from Home Depot.

Just over engineer it enough that you can feel comfortable skipping the 50 MPH crash test.

This must be in my opinion one of the most pleasurable mods to date. I have always been accused of driving the recliner but the prius wouldn't allow it. Now with my new rail extenders it's like a new car. I have two of these priu'i and luv to sit in the one without the mod to remind me of how it was so cramped. These are quality made brackets and took all of 20 minutes to install.

I am thanking you on behalf of my father who just ordered a set of the seat extenders. He is 6'2" and loves his Gen II Prius except for the leg room. I have a Gen III that fits fine, but I am 5'8". I don't have a problem with airplanes either. We read through the installation directions and found them very clear an helpful. I am greatful that the Gen II rail extensions exist.

 

Hmmm... I'd really like something like that. More for the passenger side really, that big glove box does get in the way a bit. Just seems a little pricey.

 

I plan on getting a set of the extenders later this week. I think my brother is going to get a pair as well. I already have back problems so I need the seat to sit up right. Doing that shoves my knees into the dash and I can't sit comfortably. This is causing neck tension as well. I'll be sure to leave a review when I get them installed and tested.

 

Do you think the extenders for the gen II would also fit the gen III ?

 

never mind I found the answer myself, It's all the same

 

I'm 6'5" and all legs. My torso is normal sized as someone under 5'10". I just bought the driver's seat extenders and installed them today. I did the install without removing the seat or unplugging the air bag sensors (a bit of a pain and scratching of the extenders but they're in). I love the car even more! I have a whole different perspective driving now. The seat is definitely more vertical which I like and I can't even go the whole way back with the new extenders! I stay 2 clicks forward for now, but I might adjust in the future. I figure sitting further from the airbags and steering wheel probably negates an less safety of the seat extenders. I made sure to bolt them super tight. I think that since I'm not leaning as far back, the timing might be about the same for the air bags since I'm more vertical now. Definitely worth $195.
