Just wondering from you members that have had previous Priuses. I am from Wisconsin and my 2010 Prius is getting on average 55 mpg, with best on a trip being mostly on cruise of 63.5 mpg. What can I expect to happen with my MPG when we get temps down to zero. I have heard of some people say they get around 30 mpg, is that a strech of negative input or is that what I can expect? What State, and average Winter temperatures do you have and what have you gotten for mileage?
With our 2005 Prius that we traded in (for a Prius 2010 IV) here in MA, we averaged about 44 mpg in very cold weather and about 46-48 mpg the rest of the time and summer was about 52 mpg, all on trip (but my calculated was about the same). If you only travel a few miles to work then you will get bad MPG's, the car will not heat up in time (the engine needs to get wormed up before it starts to shut down). Hope this helps. Don
We hope the Gen III will do better, but I think nobody knows yet. Pretty sure preheating your engine helps, and I assume if it stays in a heated garage that would help too.
Here's my 5.5 years of data driving in Minnesota... 46.5 = Spring 51.3 = Summer 47.6 = Fall 43.7 = Winter The 2010 will clearly do better. Toyota did a lot for thermal management. I'm totally looking forward to this cold season. .
