Thanks for the links jayman - this thread has been really helpful for me - I was able to refute the person on the other board, and I learned a lot from everyone too (and had a good laugh at a lot of the posts). Now I have all the information I need if I ever hear someone make the stupid battery acid comment again :)

So what happened with that post? Did she respond to your post? Did the lady buy a hybrid?

The person I was responding to in that post hasn't said anything back to me yet...but hopefully the person that started the thread now knows that there's no battery acid problem...plus if anyone does a search, all of the links and stuff will be there for them to find. I just hate the idea of someone stumbling on that thread and being turned off by the misinformation. I'm sure there are a zillion comments like that on the Internet though...at least I fixed one!

every little bit helps. thanks for going the extra mile to set them straight. of course, when driving a car that gets 50+ mpg, its easy and economical to do a little extra driving...

I am a member of some other car forums just to catch some of the misinformation on the Prius. Mostly I have to cut and paste the info and links from here. :D

What about the 12V battery in the back? I guess there are 2 of them, one for brakes. I have not looked at them, are they gel cells?

the other is a capacitor to store a small amount of temp power in case the electrical system fails so the brake ECU still will work
