    OK, the actor is Don Johnson, the movie is "Zachariah".

    Don's first movie was "A Boy And His Dog" an interesting early sci fi film.
    It ended badly for the dog, however!!!

    Sorry for the delay here, but I didn't have enough confidence in my own movie-memory-abilities to realize, this is not correct.

    Not the same movie at all.
