Hi there all! I'm Mark from the Netherlands. After two weeks of waiting here's my brand new Prius 2010. It has Executive trim and a solarroof, color 070 (Pearl White). No clue how it compares to US cars yet, as i said, i just got the car today and only tonight i found some time to check around for Prius forums. Been busy on Honda S2000 forums before too, since that's my "play around toy" for the weekends. Anyways, i'm very happy and more then pleasantly surprised with the car. Drove 40 km so far, nothing big, but got to play a bit with all nifty designer stuff inside. Ride was (imho) quite okay, to my liking it's way too soft. High, energy saving tyres make it more spongy i suspect and i love the looks of a car with a set of rims that look like they were created for the car. Soooo.. Currently searching for 18 or 19 inch rims but missing out on examples of really "fat" 2010 priusses still to borrow some inspiration from... Any suggestions? Thanks all! Hope i'll learn a lot from you about my new "daily transport with a green heart". Mark
Hey Mark, welcome and congratulations. Try increasing the pressure in your tires to at least 42/40 psi (is it still psi where you are?) and see if that takes away some of the softness. I personally run mine at 46/44.
The 17" rims already give a big improvement in handling over the 15" rims. I would never put 18" or 19" rims on a Prius. You will loose a lot of comfort, you will need expensive tires that don't last very long, and you will risk damaging the rims much more, since there is almost no tyre left on the rim. Hit a curbstone, and the rim may be damaged. Besides that, I think it looks a bit silly. This is a Toyota Prius, not a Ferrari. Someone on this forum mentioned very nice and very light Italian rims, and they were available in several colours. And no, we are not using psi. We use Bar or kPa (kiloPascal).
Thanks for the hint Cpatch.. Inflated the tyres a tad more and a little bit of the softness disappears. However, it's still nothing like i was used to. Makes perfect sense if you read on.. Thanks RoyalBlue! Still thinking about 18"... When i invest in 18" rims it's a mere 100 euro approximately on top of the 17" ones. Second of all, a pretty good friend owns a wheels and tyre shop. So the prices are slightly different. However, i'm still looking out for nice rims that suit a pearl white prius nicely. Any ideas? Always open to suggestions!!! By the way: within a few days i've adapted a new driving style that has a few advantages: - save a LOT of fuel in comparison to my previous car (BMW 335d) - the wife doesn't get nausious - speed tickets are less nasty Starting to like this car!!! Oh, you say Ãt's no ferrari. true! But still, a car's design depends heavily on the kind of rims that are fitted. So, without turning the Prius into a pimped ride, still it's a LOT better looking with a set of proper rims. So, anyone with links to fitting 18" rims??? Mark
