Well the updated cargo hooks have arrived in Canada. I got mine installed and it was the new hooks.

I called Toyota Customer Care two days ago and spoke to a representative about the cargo net problem. I had called them over a month ago (have a case number) and have not heard from them nor my dealer since.
The rep said that he hadn't heard about the problem but after checking he stated that a TSB is going to be issued, but there is no information on when it will be issued (my dealer said it could take up to a year.)
I asked him to look into it and he said he would and someone "higher up" will call me.
Yesterday I received a call from someone "higher up" who said the exact same thing he did.
I said it is very disappointing that after all of this time Toyota still can't provide a time line for getting the problem resolved.
I also stated that I have had the car since July 6th and with no use the cargo net and asked for some sort of compensation. I suggested the retail price of the net. The rep said she will have to go "higher up" to get an approval.
I'm really not looking for compensation, but felt I had to do something to express my dissatisfaction with Toyota's inaction and keeping their customers in the dark about when they can expect a resolution to the problem.

Thanks Holbrook22. Now you've got me wondering just how HIGH they can go... Stratospheric, it sounds like!

Toyota seems to be dropping the ball on this one. It really is an easy fix -- I don't understand why they are taking so long.

Called my dealer today. They are going to fix this on mine Thursday, during the new toyota owner event. lol

They also said that they absolutely wanted to change the oil at 5k intervals and said that the info on here was wrong. I think they may not have received the info, but even if did would be reluctant, because that is 1/2 the profit for them. (They claimed the oil could make it, but not the filter?) Anyways I didn't argue because they said it's free anyway. They have gone pretty far to keep me happy, so I'm pleased. I am also getting a speaker replaced that was blown or faulty when I got the car.

Thank you for posting this, I too have the same problem on my 2010, the panels are not aligned (exactly like your photos) one of the anchors popped out and it took me 25 minutes to get it realigned and screwed back in. Glad to see this is a bigger issue and it can be addressed at the dealership. Next time this comes apart I won't even bother with fixing it myself, I'll take it to the dealer.

    Thanks,
    D.

My dealer here in NC knows nothing about a fix yet.

Mine has a Cargo Net but doesn't have the mounts shown in the pictures. I picked mine up in August. I guess that is one way to not have the problem.

How is your cargo net secured? Do you have a photo?

I will try to remember to take one tomorrow. It is secured front to back on the floor so to speak. Like a spider web all sprawled out. You can hold things down and that is about it.

That explains one thing, then. The cargo net which is the object of all the consternation let loose in this thread is the vertical one. It uses the same metal D-rings you use near the hatchback, but then the other hooks need to be added to allow it to connect up near the end of the tonneau cover.

Good for you to have one that works!

I received my return phone call from Toyota's Customer Care rep. about my request for compensation for not being able to use of my cargo net and also for Toyota not having a date for resolving the issue. She said that they will give me a credit of up to $150.00 towards any Toyota accessories for the car.
I thanked her, but I don't need any new accessories. I reiterated the apparent lack of concern by Toyota and she said my "comments" will be forwarded to Toyota's management.........so nothing has changed!
I will now send a letter to the president of Toyota and see what sort of a response I get from that.

Well that's silly! They simply hooked it up to the existing cargo straps...

Toyota sells two different cargo nets.

The one which the OP referred to is the vertical cargo net. It is attached to two of the rings mounted in the floor and two hooks which are installed as part of the cargo net feature. This cargo net is really a vertical compartment made out of a wide spaced mesh. You can store items inside the compartment.

The second cargo net is the horizontal cargo net (which I have seen referred to as the spider cargo net). It is a single layer of mesh which attaches to the four hooks in the floor and holds the cargo down. It isn't silly at all - it is just different.

Personally, I would like the vertical cargo net (which I had in my 2004 Prius). The spider net is useless for my purposes (i.e. keeping groceries and other small items from rolling all around in the cargo space). Unfortunately, the choice of cargo nets offered for sale are controlled by the individual sales region, and Gulf States Toyota, which controls sales in Texas, only sells the spider net.

I checked with the parts department at our local dealer's place yesterday. The guy there said he could find a cargo net fix kit, but he was unable to order it. Likewise, he still cannot order the cargo net.

I told him other folks have had the new one installed for weeks, and his response was that it must be a regional thing. So . . . I guess the Chicago Region just doesn't have anything available yet.

Well that explains mine since it originated from GST.

I will agree the horizontal model is less functional than the vertical model would be. I still find some use as I can hold things down and from rolling around un-neccessarily.

Head on in to the parts department and get yourself a nice Toyota jacket. Mine would have cost about $150US. Really nice jacket, I was comfortable out in it at -17 C. It has a removeable liner and hood. I trust you can get them there. Toyota Merchandise

i took my car to manhattan beach toyota today for a oil change. so i asked them to fix the panels. the rep told me he has never seen this before and will look in to it. i just got a call and the rep told me that the dealer i bought the car from installed the net incorrectly and asked for $90 dollers to fix it. I told them to go fly a kite, theres no way im going to pay 90 bucks for something that should be covered.
