Ok, this info is about a week old and you may have already seen it posted by mrv over on PriusOnline, but I figured I'd post it here as well to make sure everyone has seen it and so we can begin some discussion on it. As posted by mrv at PriusOnline: "All info is preliminary, not etched in stone yet... The high-up Toyota people are still deciding on what they want to offer, so things may still change... Consider this a better than rumor, but can still change... New 2006 Prius will be out in November (not until sometime after Halloween) Exterior colors: Super White (color code 040) stays same Black (color code 202) stays same Seaside Pearl (color code 8S2) stays same Driftwood Pearl (color code 4S2) stays same Millenium Silver Metallic (color code 1C0) is replaced: changes to either Silver Millenium (like Highlanders) or Silver Streak (like Tacomas) Tideland Pearl (color code 6S9) is replaced: changes to the new Avalon color known as Silver Pine (a lightish silvery green) Danny's addition - God awful color! [Broken External Image]:http://toyota.com/images/vehicles/avalon/gallery/color/photo_6.jpg Salsa Red (color code 3Q3) is replaced: changes to a new red metallic... no idea on color +Add a new gray metallic exterior color, probably Flint Mica (like the Scion tC or the Rav4's) Add a leather option in ivory and grey in most models No decision yet on any interior color/exterior color combination changes Package content changes are certain, unknown what the changes are at the moment... Maybe a driver's power seat option The front headlights, grille, foglamps area (fascia) changes, rear taillights change. The audio system will change for better sound. May also change the wheel design... but a BIG maybe on that. No decision yet on a special edition car in White Pearl (Arctic) with tan leather..." All of this information makes it sound like we could be seeing a very different Prius in '06. Could Toyota be screwing up a good thing?
The changes you list don't bother me that much. I would certainly not trade for them. I have seen the replacement color for Salsa red and it doesn't appear to be as deep. Personally, I am glad to see the Salsa disappear because it makes mine feel more special.
I think Silver Pine is a little more greenish than the one you posted. Hmm.... but certainly not as greenish as Tideland. Also, I would've liked to see them add a simple but effective indicator - a Low Windshield Washer Fluid light.
Looks just like what Toyota is currently calling Tideland on their site, though we all know that to be wrong. Ugly in any shade, if you ask me. [Broken External Image]:http://toyota.com/images/vehicles/prius/gallery/color/photo_5.jpg
I really, REALLY, hope they don't "give in" and turn it into another unrecognizable body in the sea of vehicular mediocracy...
i hope the changes are good since im ordering a 2006 direct...i'll let ya guys know the options and stuff soon as i find out...i really want a good red with the darker interior
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mystery Squid\";p=\"96081)</div> Okay, I need to read things more closely. As I looked at the picture, I thought to myself, "Wow, they're sure making the 2006 model Prius look a lot like an Avalon... Oh, wait, it is an Avalon!"
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Mystery Squid\";p=\"96081)</div> I certainly hope that Toyota converts their fleet to hybrid (at least a ybrid option of each). But mostly, I hope they leave the Prius mostly unchanged as far as shape. It's fine to have the "secret hybrids" that look just like their traditional brethren, but the Prius is different. Like the Insight, it says without compromising, "that's right, I haul nice person and sip gas."
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Danny\";p=\"96051)</div> Except that the 04 Prius Tideland swatch is a swatch whereas the Avalon is an actual pic. But either way, they seem to be moving to lighter greens (e.g. Cactus Mica on the Corolla ukeright. Ugh
Flint Mica is a stunning color. It really "pops" in direct sunlight. Maybe a little show-car flashy for some tastes, but I think it'll work on Prius. Good info, Danny. Let's hope for some price restraint and ability to get some of those options as stand alone instead of a big $ package requiring navigation.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(amped\";p=\"96462)</div> I can see what you mean. Here are a few flint mica Scion images off the net. Sort of a gray-greenish black under cloudy skies, but take a look at the last picture in bright sunlight -- almost a navy blue color. [Broken External Image]:http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/data/500/medium/HPIM1773.JPG [Broken External Image]:http://durantscion.com/images/Gallery/FIRST TC 011.jpg [Broken External Image]:http://www.viniaticustomz.com/shop/images/tC_spoiler/images/flint_mica.jpg [hr:c8ff0614b8] Still, I think it's a net loss (if the rumor is true) that the Prius is losing Tideland Green and Salsa Red -- my two favorite colors on the current Prii. And I'm amazed that the Midnight Blue that is available in Japan and Europe for the Prius isn't coming to the US and Canada.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Danny\";p=\"96018)</div> ukeright: I seriously hope the leather for the Prius is a rumor. If Toyota wants to put it on their other hybrids, that's their prerogative; just not the Prius. Esther
didn't toyota develop their own type of leather that isn't actual leather? any older members remember this post a long time ago? from what i read and heard, they stopped using actual leather on toyotas and lexus. maybe i'm wrong? Mica is a beautiful color. They use it on the 400h. That green isn't too bad. stand out.. yes.. kinda ugly. I think all prius colors ( not including silver or black) look kinda ugly on the prius.. while online. In person, they all look good. I the same goes for a green prius. Tint the windows.. it could look... decent.
I think they use a "leatherette", which as you know is just a less supple feeling vinyl that imitates leather. My wife has it in her 2000 Beetle (don't even get me started on that mistake of a vehicle :cussing: )...I'm glad the Prius looks as it does now...I would have considered buying one before '04 but the bodystyle of the original models really bugs me for some reason. No offense to previous generation owners, but I just hate it. My Uncle has one, and he loves it and hates the new style..so to each their own....I think the colors and options are fine the way they are now, but change is invevitable...damn Toyota focus groups
Leatherette is horrible. It's a nice way of saying vinyl. What I think Toyota should do is offer Alcantara instead
Is it possible that Toyota might add a tire pressure monitoring system in 2006? Such a capability would be consistant with the Prius concept. I thought I remember hearing that this type of system was going to be required on new cars at some point in the future.
I hope they do. They have it on the Corolla, makes sense to have it on the Prius. I assume the next Camry will have it too.
