Let me start by saying that I'm not sure if all interiors are the same other than the seating surface. On my pkg 5 the A pillar moldings (triangular in shape. Go around the wing windows in front) are a velvety fuzzy material. Well, today I noticed some lines on the A pillars, the lines looked similar to a rug that has been vaccumed. By this I mean that there is some striping that looks similar to where lines go in opposite directions, the lines are about the width of a pencil. I couldn't figure out where the lines could have come from and then it hit me, the sunshade that I recently started using had rubbed the A pillar material and made these marks/lines. Not a big deal right? Wrong, they don't rub out! In the grand scheme of things this is a trivial complaint but I am very dissapointed that I invested 30 grand into a vehicle and a flimsy heatshield can damage an interior panel after a few uses.... I would like to think that Toyota put out a product which is made a little less fragile than this, don't get me wrong... I understand the r&d went into the hybrid system and such but I'm just very dissapointed as the marks are forward of the driver and I will likely notice them for some time to come
I'm sorry, but with the way you use punctuation, I can't understand what you are saying. Could you please try again? <edit> Thanks -- your post is clear as a bell now. And I can sympathize...when I type fast on my iPhone, I've had the same thing happen too!
Sounds like the issue is with the shield itself, not the car. I have a shield (bought from the shop here) and haven't had any issues. But then again, I don't think my car has fuzzy material there. I'd have to double check.
I had considered that but upon close examination of the heatshield it doesn't appear that anyone would expect it to cause damage. I believe that this one falls on Toyota's choice of interior components, which is why I'm dissapointed.
The heatshield burned the velvety material? If that's the case, it's akin to taking an iron to velvet.
You know, I'm not sure that it burned it... The heatshield is silver on one side and white on the other. There is a black nylon like material that is stitched around the entire unit, this black material is what I believe caused the damage by rubbing the A pillar while i was sliding it into place.
i use my heatshield everyday and put it on and off twice a day. i dont see any problem yet. maybe i need to see pictures as well to get an idea of what i'm going to run into in the future.
I've used my shield since June, too, no problems. FYI, on the Mercedes Forum they call that fuzzy material (that's on the pillars of IV and V models) "Mouse Fur". That name sticks once you hear it.
