"Running in full electric mode, the car can travel up to 31 miles." "1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbodiesel ...Combined with the electric motors, the total system output is 356 bhp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque ... can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds" "the Vision is able to achieve a fuel economy rating of 3.76 liters/100 kilometers (62.5 mpg equivalent)" Hot Diggity!!! Where do I sign my name??? It's a PHEV Prius 95% of the time, and an "M" BMW the other 5% of the time. Now if we can get Porsche to sign on.
Oh! The deception!!! I just realized I did not make the calculation for gasoline vs. diesel MPG! So, really it's equivalent to ~40mpg gasoline equivalent. (diesel is a more dense (more compact) form of energy storage). I still praise the vehicle and diesels, but the calculation cannot be ignored.
That's true, but the difference isn't as great as you calculate. It's about 11% difference according to EIA (http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/servicerpt/lightduty/pdf/sroiaf(2009)02.pdf). So that would be about 62.5/1.11 = 56.3 mpg gasoline equivalent. Also notice in the last paragraph on page 26 of the EIA report that petro-diesel has lower energy consumption, and thus CO2 emissions, than gasoline in the refining process ("well to tank").
Hi All, This is a PHEV GM Precept. The extra batteries are used not only for range, but to give very good power at low speeds (great accelleration).
