Hi all, I am thinking about ordering my Prius soon. I just downloaded the Electronic brochure from Toyota. It looks like the power moonroof with solar ventilation is not available as an option in the Prius V. I was under the impression that the Prius V had "everything". Can someone please confirm if the Prius V has the solar moonroof or not. Thanks, DoP
Old news. The solar roof adds too much weight when combined with all of the other options. The extra weight would have produced two EPA mileage figures for the Prius, which is something Toyota wishes to avoid. I believe they would be required to use the lower of the two in any advertising. Tom
Yes and in other country, top of the line can be had with all the options in V with sunroof and cool features like heads up display. Of couse here is US, we don't get that. I wanted 17" wheels and LED headlights but I wanted the solar sunroof more so I opted package IV figuring I can always add 17" wheels and/or LED headlights if I wanted. I didn't need technology package as I rarely do street parking or use cruise control.
Just waiting for delivery of my 2010 Itech Prius. Due late October. It does get a bit annoying to see how Toyota selectively makes various options available in different countries. We seem to get everything but the Lane Keeping Assist as far as I can see. Also no Sat Radio available. I am just waiting to see if Aussie Prius' will get the iPod integration. My car will be a September build so I am hopeful. The weight answer seems to be quoted frequently. When the new models started appearing here one of the first things I checked was why no spare tyre, not even a space saver. Assumed some piece of equipment had been put in its place. When I checked at the dealers it had the plastic carrier for the wheel, complete with tyre repair kit aerosol can, cigar lighter powered air pump plus wheel brace and jack. Just no wheel. If no wheel then why bother putting in a jack and wheel brace? When questioned dealer admitted to the weight having to be kept below a certain limit for fuel economy figure reasons. We can order a spare wheel, space saver or full size, but it has to be ordered back at the factory at build time. As all of our children have left home I did not have a spare child to sell into slavery to pay for this option. The biggest problem now is the waiting for delivery.
Yes but they don't get the 17" alloys. Also you guys get LKA and no one else in the world gets it. Stop complaining!! =)
Wouldn't they also get it in Europe and Japan? They get even more features than the US... like IPA on the Gen TWO!
Yeah but again, you guys are the only ones in the world to get HIDs on a Prius. Japan didn't get them until 2006 I believe. All cars have more features in Europe and Japan. They also cost a LOT more. So unless you want a Corolla priced like a Camry and a Camry priced like a Lexus, stop asking for more stuff and expect the price to remain the same. That's all I'm saying. e.g. in Canada, our 2010 Mazda3 can now be equipped with power, heated leather seats w/ 3-way memory, HIDs w/ adaptive headlights and auto-levelling, 17" alloys, LED taillights, nav, SKS, Bose stereo, rain-sensing wipers, auto-headlights... but guess what? A loaded Mazda3 Sport GT costs Cdn$29k, or about $3k less than a Camry XLE or $5k more than a Camry LE.
Does anyone know what specifically makes the V so heavy that the spare tire and sun roof had to be kept out? Are the LED lamps a lot heavier than the halogens? I suppose I could see how that might be possible - the problem with LEDs has always been the lack of power, which is solved by bundling a LOT of them together - perhaps the LED lamps are a huge array of LEDs that weigh a lot more than the halogen projectors...?
Although that was the reason given, some think it may be a combination of weight and a decision to keep the cost down on the top model by not offering both the SR and ATP together (or solely a decision to keep the cost of the top model down).
17" + Solar roof = weight overload (not the cars, but probably the EPA.... the EPA only allows a certain range of weight that is acceptable given the advertised EPA mileage figure). (According to TMS, you almost could have leather and the moonroof at the same time b/c of weight... leather comes with power lumbar support so it's not just the weight of the upholstery) Another that the Chief Engineer suggested is to do with structural integrity when the larger wheel is used with a glass roof instead of a solid metal roof. The solar panel moonroof is 30kg (~65lbs) The Prius V "package" (LED/17"/fog/headlight levelling sensors/washers) is 30kg (~65lbs) Leather, nav, IPA w/ backup camera, DRCC & PCS add another 40kg (~90lbs) So you can see that a V AT is nearly 150lbs heavier than the III or a IV.
Yeah.. that's why I threw in the III lol. It's also a little off for the III too since there's also the auto-dimming mirror and and 3-dr SKS etc.
True. The Prius I have ordered is like V + Solar + JBL (which is an accessory here) + iPod connection - LKA - 17'' and costs about 35.000 EUR or about 50.300 USD. Almost double than a Prius V in the US.
Really? Because when they advertise the Venza, they always advertise the MPG for the base 4 cylinder. Must be something else.
The Prius only has one engine option. If the mileage for any package were lower, Toyota would have to use that as the official mileage figure for the Prius. Tom
At first I was looking for a V with sunroof but was told to don't make the V with sunroof. So, I decided to go with the V instead of the IV.
