Was talking to a Toyota service advisor the other day. He recalled the Prius hybrid battery used to cost about $8,000 in 2001, claiming that prices have come down a lot and should continue to do so. Any truth to that?
just the battery only, at least this is for my 2001 when I replace the battey in 2006. That's the US price though, the Canadian price is aorund $1000 more.
The earliest price I know, from the 2001 Prius parts list, was USD$4823.41 The associated computer, often said to require co-replacement, was $1100.34 Ah those were the days... Whether the price dropped gradually or in one/few steps, I don't know, but about $2300 is today new price. (Battery and ECU together, right?) R&R labor seems to be whatever 'they' can get away with, frankly. Spoz to be a 1.8 hr job after rear seat and luggage trim removal.
My main battery died in 2006. I remember the dealer telling me the replacement cost for the battery itself would have been over $3500 (it was replaced under warranty, so I didn't have to pay it). So I guess it has been coming down gradually.
Just FYI, In 2008, Toyota reduced the 2001 battery price from $2985 to $2299. Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Announces Price Reduction On Prius Hybrid Batteries / Toyota Ken@Japan
