I am searching for a two bicycle rack solution for my 2010 Prius. Does anyone have a bicycle rack that they love?

Are you looking for a hitch-mounted one or one that mounts onto the rear hatch?

I recently got a Saris T-Bones rack, which is totally awesome.
It mounts onto a hitch and allows the rear hatch to be opened without removing the rack/bikes.

It also doubles as a storage stand for the bikes.
    Here is the introduction video:

That looks nifty. Darelldd described something similar, with cradles for the wheels. Maybe a search here for bike racks would show the thread.

If you are looking for a hitch mounted rack the Saris Thelma has alot of positive reviews and is very light at 26 lbs. Hope this helps.

I was considering the Thelma, but gave the T-Bones a closer look and it's only 10 lbs!

Does anyone get nervous the bike or rack will fall off? When I used a rack that went on to my Honda hatchback, even though it was secure when I check it, I was always looking on my rear view mirror nervous something would happen.

Thelma looks familiar. I think that's the one darell was talking about.

nola_Prius - Thank you for the information about the T-Bones. This looks like a great option! What kind of hitch are you using? My car is still on order so I am unsure if a hitch is even present on it.

    Thanks in advance!

    Tom,
Unfortunately, your Prius won't come with a hitch. You'll have to order one. The one that seems most popular (and I think the only one available for the 2010 Prius at this time) is the Curt hitch.

I recently made a thread about my Curt hitch install. It's in the Accessories and Modifications sub-forum. My thread is here: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-curt-hitch-install-question-help-please.html

It's a really simple install. The hitch ran me about $140 shipped from www.etrailer.com.
    Here it is: http://www.etrailer.com/pc-H~11469.htm?vehicleid=2010614549
I also have some pics and info about the Saris T-Bones in that Curt hitch thread as well. Check it out and I hope it helps!

Let me know if you have any other questions...

The 'showroom' Gen III on display at my local Toyota showroom is a black T Spirit (very nice!)....and unusually it is being displayed with a roof mounted cycle carrier, complete with a very nice (black) mountain bike on top.

In my years of treking in and out of car showrooms I have never seen this combination on display before....but it is very striking. :thumb:

(Just glad I wasn't asked to lift the bike up there...it looked heavy :D )

I am an avid cyclist. I have a 2005 Camry with a Thule roof rack (2 bikes) and a Thule rear hitch mount 4 bike rack. The Thule Parkway rear rack is very functional, but HEAVY!

For my new 2010 Prius, I went with a Curt hitch (installed myself as others on this thread), and went with Kuat Beta 2 bike rear hitchmount rack to keep the bikes and racks OFF the car and optimize the aerodynamics for mileage. The Kuat Beta is great at only 10 lbs, and $100 cheaper than the Sarius T-Bone, and made of heat-treated aluminum for strength and light weight. If you can live with a bit more weight (13 lbs), you can get the Kuat Alpha rack which is about the same as the Sarius but carries 3 bikes AND comes in white as well as black.

Anyway, check out Kuat racks and Curt receivers if you haven't purchased already.

I just joined the forum that I found today and found this discussion a little humorous.
I am about to buy a Prius largely because you can put bikes INSIDE the car. One can put a exterior carrier on ANY car. We ride 4-5000 miles a year, many rides with remote starts, not to mention really remote week long tours. We like having our vehicles protect our bikes. This will be my forth hatchback vehicle in some 30 years that I can put my bike into.
Just a consideration. BTW, the best vehicle was a SAAB hatchback that I could get 4 road bikes into only taking off a couple front wheels!

Which makes a lot of sense if there are two of you. There are three of us.... we have to use a rack to get us and our gear from point A to point B.

I've been digging through old threads trying to find information on the different racks and have found it a bit confusing and not a lot of pictures! I think I am going to order the Saris, it's on backorder but when I get it, I'll post some pictures! :)
