Just got back from Reno Nevada. I have just over 5,000 miles on the oil. Total miles on the car is now 10,100 miles.(See my post on Fuel Economy Forums for MPG stats) I just found out from this forum that Toyota has increased the oil change from 5,000 miles to 10,000 miles. I was just getting ready to change my oil today. (I did the first 5,000 miles change myself, used 0X20 MObil ONe Synthetic oil with a Toyota Oil filter). Thats great news, and a green savings both ways. I still will contact my Toyota Dealer tomorrow and have them confirmed. I also will asked them to change the software of the oil change reminder from 5,000 miles to 10,000 miles. Just curious if anyone has had that software change done yet. alfon
I heard the news through this site, but has anyone gotten 100% confirmation? If this is true it should garner a big annoucement. I hope it is true, but am waiting for some feedback from Toyota directly.
Did we really need a new thread on this, since it just shows that the OP is happy with the unconfirmed reports in the original thread.
Probably not yet but if it is confirmed it would be a good idea to have a thread on this in the maintenance forum.
I called Toyota today. They told me they are thinking about the 10,000 mile oil change but nothing is confirmed. Does anyone out there know more about this. alfon
I certainly hope they do allow the same interval as in the EU for Toyota: 12 months or 10,000 miles. With the 2010's now requiring a synthetic 0W-20, if we're stuck servicing every 6 months or 5,000 miles, the routine maintenance costs will far exceed the average auto What I would worry about is the average Bubba Gump dealership using their crap generic who-knows-what oil from the bulk lube tote bin, and allowing a 12 month or 10,000 mile interval It would be the sludge class action lawsuit all over again
Toyota Toyota or Toyota your Toyota dealer? But it isn't confirmed yet, this discussion is paralleling the discussion in the other thread, and I am afraid more people are going to hear this without processing the caveats involved.
I hate to add to the duplication but as stated on the other thread for this, I contacted Toyota Toyota (HQ) for information. It will be interesting to see if they respond with anything of value.
With my mileage down near 10K per year, it's also down to 2 changes. If they changed the rules across the board it'd be nice, but it would have been nicer back when I was doing 3 per year. Last one was $26 for Mobil 1 5W-30 and $21 for the BYOO change/tire rotation at Pope-Davis. Not bad for a full-synthetic change...
The Prius Team already responded in that other thread that officially nothing has changed. That's the horse's mouth, from what I can tell.
