I've had my 2010 Prius for close to two weeks and am it's making a weird noise. When I'm at low speeds, around 5 mph, the body makes a crackling noise. I didn't notice this until I had my window down while braking. I stopped by the Toyota dealership and without looking over the car told me that its the body adjusting, because its new, sounds crappy to me. I have an appointment tomorrow morning to have it checked out. Has anyone else had this problem?
Any other words to describe it? This vehicle makes numerous unusual noises so more info might help. Regardless, I would not accept the dealer's explanation either.
A friend at work noticed this for me in the parking lot. He said I wouldn't be able to sneak up on him because I sound like Rice Krispies crackling in the bowl! I rolled my window down and and heard it too. Almost sounds like gravel in the wheel well, but that's not quite it. "Snap, crackle, pop" is the best description.
Any luck finding the root cause on this issue? I have a 2022 prius LE, that makes similar sound when pulling out of driveway, while engine is still off. Sounds like a pebble is rolling around under the hood. Only happens when starting after turning on the car, not on the road.
Are you sure it's not the pedestrian speaker we have just behind the radiator? It plays "alien" sounds whenever we are backing up or driving slow. My co-worker has a new Chevy Bolt and hers sounds more like an angelic choir....not sure why Toyota went with sounds from the "Mars Attacks" movie!!
