On the TRIP indicator, the readings are as follows: TRIP A 224 Miles CONS 45.3 MPG AVG 18 MPH I never drive at 18 miles per hours and this value never changes. It stays at 18 MPH, regardless of whether I have done highway or local driving. Does the dealer need to look at this? Also, the CONS goes between 44 and 45 and does not vary beyond that. Is that anything to wonder about? The mileage value does increase correctly. Thanks in advance!! I am a first-time Prius owner.
I am going to say that I think it is fine, since the computer takes in all time, idling time, sitting at a red light, slow traffic, you name it. My 2010 shows my AVG SPEED of 24 MPH and although I do some Thruway Driving...it's fine. If you were to take the car quickly to an interstate and drive for 30 minutes at 60 MPH (of course after the reset of the settings) you would see you AVERAGE numbers move considerably higher. The Consumption or MPG numbers are good and as you TUNE your driving skills you will see those number grow as well. Just reset one of the Trip Meters A or B each tankfull and you should see how well your doing. Good luck with your car, I am loving mine, and any questions? you have the right forum to ask. Congrats!
18 MPH is almost certainly correct. The timer is running whenever the system says READY, whether the Prius is moving or not. Reset it while on the highway. Watch what happens, then slow down. The value is quite informative, but not necessarily intuitive. .
