Anyone else having a tailgate rattle? I checked the license plate and it's not that I checked the tonneau cover and it's not that
I was in the back seat of my wife's Prius IV 2010 today and heard a rattle that I thought at fist was coming from the outside to only find out it was the passengers rear seat causing it. I opened it and closed it several times and it seemed to have gone away, if it comes back then back to the dealer, at least I know where it is coming from. Seat folded down= no rattle Seat up = rattle
I would also suggest you make sure the cover over the rear storage is closed all of the way and locked. Do you have anything in the storage area that could be rattling?
I do have stuff in it but its a sweatshirt and grocery bags so nothing that will rattle. They are also locked I'm going to test with the seats down this morning.
So apparently that did NOT fix the problem. I haven't opened the tailgate or touched anything in the back since my last post and the problem noise has gotten worse. It was any big bump that the tailgate rattled (more of a creek) but now it is every small bump too.
is it a squeak? Mine has a squeak that I attribute to body flex over the road contruction near my house - worse than dirt roads right now
I found two things that solved my backseat/cargo rattle. First was when I folded the seats down, there was still some plastic stuck in the connection hinge that holds the seat. I doubt this contributed, but I think it helped a little. Second and more significant is that if I drive with the cargo cover extended, it rattles. If i retract it, it doesnt rattle at all (except when I have my coffee mug in the coffee holder). Hope this helps, it was really bothering me for a while.
I have the slight rattle too. Haven't figured out where it was coming from, so I'll try the tips above. Thanks.
Could it be from the storage unit under the carpet area or one of the side compartments (drivers side) in the hatch area not being seated correctly?? If you removed the shade that was my other thought....but you did that one. Check the compartment and tire area to be sure nothing is loose there as well....

My Prius was in for its first service this weekend. For the tailgate they "put felt under the plastic" I only hear rattles on big bumps now.
i had the same annoying noise too. the bump stops on the tailgate but they are working fine. could it be the bed bolts? any thoughts? thanks.
