I think I read that Prius I, the bottom model, was due out in September. Does anyone know what options it won't have that the Prius II has?
I'm waiting for the information too. Wondering what Toyota will take out for cost reduction. My guess is taking out the following: 1) 15" alloy wheels 2) color-keyed power heated outside mirrors 3) Tonneau cover I guess they will stay with the smart key system, HAC, and all safety related features. Back in March 09, Toyota created Prius base I model to compete with the lower cost Honda Insight, but Insight sales figures is significantly behind Prius since GenIII Prius came out ended of May, and the new Prius is saleing very well in US and Japan. Plus Toyota have production supply issue to keep up the demand, they may not push the base model I until it is really needed.
I suspect they will leave out retail sales. I suspect it will only be sold to rental and fleet buyers. Coca Cola rep Prius
Logical would be: 1. Door handle finger sensor. 2. Headed rear-view mirrors. 3. AUTO A/C sensor. 4. Cruise Control 5. Steering Wheel controls. I'm not sure so on #3, but the others alone should equal about $1,000.
Tom, you are exagerating. It is actually only 6) Battery (traction battery) 7) MGs to produce a Non-Hybrid Prius. Oh wait, I am confusing the Prius I (One) with the Prius "None"
They might take out the smart key system. I noticed the space for the key bay is already reserved under the steering wheel, but it has a cover over it. Or is that for something else? EDIT: another candidate: the touch tracer display.
I'm curious what will be included in the Prius I as well. I'm waiting for this and to see if the traction control problem is fixed with this generation before I decide on an Insight or Prius. A perfect model would have cruise smart key mp3 power window and locks No traction control and they can take eliminate the rest of the features. Steering wheel controls, alloys, heated mirror, spoiler, arm rest, center console, power mode etc.
Car will have minimal items, cost will be near Honda, Port Installed options will bring car up to V level in price.
