Most Obscure Gen III Facts (way out there)

That looks really convenient but doesnt the risk damage/warping your wheels or cranks with the constant bumps in the road?

 

I've driven thousands of miles with my road bike in the Prius. The pressure points are on your pedal and the side of your handlebar. No risk there...

Remote start: Somebody must have noted this already. But if you remote a/c (comes with the solar roof) and keep pressing the remote for a few seconds after the a/c comes one, the engine starts. In other words, it can heat the car in cold weather as well as cooling in hot.

 

Here's a couple that you will see posted other places. The speedometer is 1.5mph fast and the Consumption idication is between 5% and 10% high too. I mention this again because it pisses me off.

No confusion. I don't have remote start - hence the surprise. I have the solar package remote A/C. Continue to press the A/C remote after the flash of acknowledgment and a few seconds later the engine starts. It's not the same as the remote start. Like A/C remote, it cuts out when you open the doors. Obviously it's to provide he same warm up convenience in cold weather that you get in hot.

 

Government regulations require a speedometer to not read less than the actual speed. There is a range allowed the goes from true speed to something like 9% high which is a ridiculous amount.

My car does not have remote start.
It has a sun roof.
It has remote a/c.
Try it. Press the remote. A light flashes, A/C comes on. Keep pressing, just a few seconds, and the motor starts. Open the door, and, like Cinderella's world at midnight, everything stops. But the car is cold or hot, according to your setting.

 

OK -- I have to ask. Are you SURE it's the motor starting? I mean, the motor or what you THINK is the motor? I have done this on a car here and realize that the whirring of the power source for the a/c can be loud when it's hot.

 

I live in an apartment complex that uses card key to get through the seurity gate, this feature would have been very nice. Unfortunately, mY Prius didn't come with one.

 

Yeah, anything that's shaped like a credit card but the actual credit card. Who would be stupid enough to leave a credit card in an unattended car? That's just screaming break in! Maybe it's the norm in other countries, much like how some people in certain parts of the U.S. leave their home unlocked.

I can definitely see it being useful for parking card key, work badge, etc.

 

Yes, I am. I'm sure because anything I leave on before turning off the power -- lights, radio, etc -- come on when the engine starts. In fact I became aware of this the first time when the car lit up at night -- it was a hot evening and I used the a/c remote.

 

Another obscure tip: When on the audio screen (previously on map screen), to quickly and easily get back to map, just hit the button on the steering wheel for pick up a phone call, then slide your finger back to hang up (brings up the phone screen for a moment), then returns you to the map. I like this better than having to take a moment to glance and see which button is nav to hit it (or wait for voice guidance which is slow).

 

I agree, there is no reason that all cars shouldn't have autoup/down for all the windows. One of my biggest annoyances about cars is when they have autodown but not autoUP. Wth? It is much easier to roll my window down myself, get my Wendy's, but then as i'm fumbling with setting my food down and putting my wallet away after I dont want to have to sit there and HOLD the switch up for 10 seconds. That is completely stupid and i'm glad the engineers finally figured it out.:doh:
