Thanks for the pep talk. I'll wait for exactly what I want. I've had my "wants" firmly in mind since way before Toyota announced the pricing and packages. I currently have a 2005 Prius but I'm really looking forward to the new interior and all the useful electronics. At one point I started to think about getting a non-hybrid car, but I just can't do it.
I was lucky. I went with my brother to the dealer so he could buy a Highlander. I saw my blizzard pearl wonder on the showroom floor. I sat in it (I'm 390 lbs.) and fit. I said to the salesman, when you are done with my brother, I want to buy this one. The only thing that bothered me at first was that he told me upfront that there is no discount and I would have to pay the list price. After driving my Pri for 3 weeks, I couldn't care less about not getting any discount. 46 mpg around town and loving it. HUGH improvement from my Lincoln Town Car (13 mpg).
DFran, My guess is if you don't already have it, just hang tight. My car from the time the VIN Number showed up on the dealer tracking sheet, took about 23 days before it arrived at the dealership...It came into the NJ Port. Typically once the VIN number is available it is at port and depends on how backed up the Port is getting items installed and arranged for Delivery. Also the wait is fine in some aspect, since the MSO (Paperwork and build sheet) has to come to the dealer before a vehicle can be registered and sold, so that's happening in the background. So my car took 23 days from the VIN date on the dealer sheet, and then about 4 days more from there, for prep, financing papwerwork and detail, and options I selected to be added, (and working around the salespersons schedule and mine). I know your anxious, and I can only say, keep on top of it best you can and the wait is well worth it when you finally get into your new car! It's so much better IMO, than my 2003 predecessor.... I just love it! And You will to! Good Luck and keep us posted when you do....
I've asked my dealer how others on this board have this vin number and etc., for tracking...and he has no idea about how to get such info. Still can't get any good estimate of when it will come.
I went to the dealer this morning (they are closed today) and there it was. Now just a day or 2 hopefully. Thank You. Here is a picture.
Dianne, I have to respectfully disagree. I am "in line" at my local dealer here in Corvallis and was getting the same message. Months and months to wait, no idea, no specific car assigned to me etc. I DID put money down and am still in their line. I've been honest and direct with my sales person and he with me. I plan to make him cookies when this is all over. He advised me to look around at other dealers and see if any of them had shorter lines and he was right. Where I live in Corvallis Oregon, Prius are hugely popular but in Hermiston Oregon, they are not. We found two on the lot unclaimed when we called there. As it turns out, they had one coming in this September allocation that fit perfectly what my buddy was seeking ( Blue, Package IV with solar) so he nabbed it. A few days later, the dealership 20 minutes from me found out they are getting the blue III I claimed. They did not have that car on their list a week before. At one point, I was on THREE dealers lists with money down. I let them all know that I was looking, and would continue to look until I found one. They were all willing to have me on their list, and they then called me when they got ones in, or had sales fall through that they thought I might accept. I get accused of being tenacious often and I think in a market like this one, it's been beneficial to be a bit more aggressive in my search. Just my two cents, ~oct
My two cents on this. I've had a standing order for a model IV/V since early July and there have still been none sent to my dealership in South Central Ohio. As more options become available for consumers, Toyota will not be able to take its car buyers for granted.
Diane, If more dealers gave out the quality and quantity of information you have provided in this forum, there would be a LOT less frustration. As of right now in San Antonio, it seems that if a car arrives, and you happen to be at THAT dealership within a few hours of the car's arrival, you could buy it. Otherwise, forget the dealer Web sites; out of date or wrong info. And, the other posters are correct; when Ford is on their II or III Gen Focus/Milan, and Nissan gets up to speed with Altima hybrids, this is going to be a vastly different ballgame. It's not a matter of grown educated adults not being able to understand the supply vs. demand issues, it is just the lack of straight, honest dealings and updates from our dealers. Thanks for being straight with us. Joe
I'm waiting too. I ordered mine in June and got a call last week that it would be in this week. When I checked the VIN they gave me, I found out it was the wrong color interior. I'm staying firm and getting the interior color I want - I'm a little more flexible on exterior. In the meantime, I already "traded in" my other car...I was worried that months of adding mileage would decrease the great trade in i negotiated so I did a little more negotiating and they bought it outright. I, in return, changed my deposit to non-refundable. I'm driving my teenager's old volvo which makes me all the more anxious to get my own new car. I figure I'll wait a month or two but once here, I'll forget about all my waiting and whining. One day at a time.
Received a call today from my dealer telling me someone backed into my new Prius in the lot today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are going to get it repainted and guaranty it will not fade, peel, etc.... For the life of it from there body :noidea:repair shop! :rip: WHAT THE @#$$^#$^@%@%#$^#^#@%@$%#$^#%^#$ This would happen to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are taking off $500 more, that is all I could get them to otherwise they would cancel the deal and sell it to someone else after it was fixed!!! They would order me another one, but we all know 3-6 month wait and my trade in would be a lot less by then!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!Please ADVISE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!
OH Man!! That's terrible news. I'd be fumming for sure. 500 is all they will come down? Seems like they can do better than that, it's been hit for crying out loud. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I'm mad for you at this point.
As for the lady that backed up into it The lady that scrapped the car was going in to get a price on fixing her bumper (figures) from them (she bought her car used from them, previously), They tell me nothing will ever show up on the car being in any accident, and I will never know it either. They will not give me any more than $500 more off (I had $800 already so now total would be $1,300) or they will just sell it to someone else. This brings up a point now, how does anybody know that the brand new car they are buying was ever repainted due to something like this?? This will make everyone wonder, so the next time you are buying that band new car, how could you tell?????????? At least they told me, the next person would not be that lucky!!!! Anyway we signed the paperwork but when I pick the car up if I notice it 1. They will have the back bumper repainted 2. They give me my check back and call it a day ( I wait 3-6 months for another white V w/AT and my trade in losses another 2-4 grand) Talking about a sh#ty decision/ deal, now if Toyota had enough stock of these cars I could just back out and buy somewhere else, but who knows if that car was ever repainted at that dealer? Thanks
Finally picked up the car tonight and So FAR I can not tell it was damaged at all (and I looked for it). I Love the car. !!!!!!!! DianneWhitmire Thank You for everything!!!!! octavia how are you doing with yours?
I also live in FL but ordered my Prius IV with SR from Ft. Myers. My order is also "firm" as I had to put a $1,000 deposit down. I was told to expect a 6-8 week delivery time. My sales agent has been very good about calling me every allocation date (they get 2-3 per month) and telling me that they are not getting any SRs. However, the last two phone conversations have not gone well. About 3 weeks ago I was told there was a shorage of supplies for the SR and that they shouldn't take any more orders for them. Then she went on to say that Toyota isn't sure they can even fill my order but would try. Then last week the story changed to Toyota has stoped producing the SR because there is a defect in the Sun/Moon roof. This is the first car deal I've done on my own and being a woman I can't help but feel that my chain is being yanked big time. I found this website while trying to verify what my sales agent has been telling me so if anyone out there has any information I would greatly appreciate it if you would share it with me.
Thanx, Dianne, for the encouragement to "hang in there". A week after my rant, a RED/gray V with Nav slipped thru to So Dak. Should be here in a week and a half. It included a Safety Connect feature, so they jacked the price a bit, but it was too close to my specs to turn down - especially in this environment!
So far so good. I'm being told my current eta is 9/9. I'm getting really excited! I'm so glad things worked out and you got your baby all fixed up!!
I definitely felt what you are now, I just hope yours goes without any delays like mine did. Please keep us posted here. As for anyone else still looking, what I did is kept going on all the dealers web sites looking at the inventory, and calling some of the closer ones to see if they had my color and options coming in. I finally got lucky and found one and the deal took about a total of ~2-3 weeks. Just keep looking, the order from one dealer thing I think just is not working properly at this time, I know others had this same car on order for months and Toyota still shipped it to this dealer (my benefit). I do not know why the order process is not working, but to me after reading so many let downs on here I knew this was my only way to get what I wanted and it worked! So keep looking even if you have money down at a dealer, keep calling other dealers, do not for a day stop, you will find what you want, it just may not be at the dealer of your main choice but in my case I think I found a better dealer than my past ones anyway. Good luck Don
