I got what I considered a pretty fair deal; Only paid MSRP for my Prius II, got the clunker rebate, and had to pony up for what's called the preferred premium accessory package ($280), Blizzard Pearl color and Bluetooth. So total was $23,549 less $4500.
I was just happy I was even able to find a car during the clunker madness.

I know someone out there got a great deal, discounts, or perhaps free service, etc. Speak up, educate us! Tell us how you got such a great deal.

If on the other hand, you got screwed, that could be interesting, too.

In a hurry to get into the clunker program and under the short supply of Prius II (IV and V were available on every dealer's lot) on all dearler lots, I pre-select a barebone incoming Prius II. Paid MSRP $22,950. Dealer gave me free window tinting and pin strips at no charge. That's it. No other charges, other than sales tax and their standard doc fee of $350. I asked to discount the dealer holdback and they simply flat out refused. I think it's a fair deal. It's what the market goes for.

I got mine for $500 off MSRP (Internet Sale). And then was charged a $500 "Dealer Handling Fee" when I got there.

    MSRP for my II was 23,019 (22,000 + 750 dest. + 200 mats + 69 rear bump. applique).

I was offered -400 off this MSRP for 22,619. I had a C4C - final before tax pricing was 18,119.

I got this pricing right in the first few days of C4C, so it was early - they sold the first car out from under me, but found me my desired II about a week later and honored my first deal pricing.

Jim Barkley Toyota in Asheville NC probably sold 150 Prius....all for $300 off MSRP, plus mats (not factory mats, but still...), free oil change and NO dealer fee. This is the best dealership I've ever dealt with - no negotiating....you talk to the sales manager (all salesmen are sales managers) and their price is posted on the website. Almost every other dealership in NC (I called them all) was looking to rip people off - especially during the cash for clunkers program.

$2,000 off MSRP on my III, but it was a manager's demo with 3,400 miles on it. No C4C.

    Prius III, solar/nav MSRP $27550 - $1867 off MSRP, additional $4500 C4C.
Original II was sold under me and I have to settle for a more expensive III packages on the last day before midnight of the first wave $1 Billion C4C.
I am glad that I had this car instead of the II.

Got all of the port add-ons (VIP alarm, door trim, floor mats, etc) for free which amounted to about $900 off of MSRP. This was back in June.

Got 2010 Trim III, with appearance package, for about one K below MSRP just after the start of C4C program. Total out of pocket cost equalled 23077-4500=18577. Given the frenzy of c4c, I think it was a good deal for both the dealer and me.

We got ours just over two weeks ago during C4C. Price was $500 under MSRP, with no financing or C4C to cloud the issue. Carmax is basically no-haggle on the purchase or trade-in, and the trade-in is a separate cash quote good for 7 days so they'll buy it either way. This was their advertised internet price that they honored with no hassle. All the Prius models I've seen there lately have been the same discount, but they don't remain on the website for long. Certainly not the best deal, but not bad given the time and that other nearby dealers I contacted were all asking for deposits to pay MSRP on one coming in a week or two.

There was nothing about my particular car deal that was so great. I got a trim II with several little packages and the got the privilege of paying $500 for tint which the dealer snuck in on me. I got two free oil change certificates and $100 off leather I had them add after the fact, so I came out OK in the end I guess. But was does make my deal really good is the fact that I was able to take advantage of both the state and federal C4C programs that were running at the time. So $3,500 from the state and $4,500 from the federal. So $24,500 - $4,500 - $3,500 + $1,299 = $17,799 + tax etc. Additionally I walked away with 5 free oil changes, so at ~$70 a pop that's another $350 in savings.

Pretty good deal for a II with leather, especially considering how rare they were in my area and the fact that this was the only dealer I could confirm that was willing to accept both the state and federal C4C programs.

Not sure if this ranks as a Best deal, but for me - at the time and being in the SET region, it was great.

I was dead-set on a Red/Bisque V without Nav in very late May. Dealers close to me knew NOTHING about the Prius, had at least a $500 dealer fee on top of MSRP, and no doubt would have loaded with Port Options.

I was tipped off soon after, by a member here, about Earl Stewart Toyota in Palm Beach. Contacted the co-owner; very pleasant to deal with. Put down a $500 ref deposit. About 5 days later - I saw "my car" on the allotment list for the SET, and got a call from them about the same time. They were able to trade another SET dealer for the car (very surprisingly to us both). So, on June 13, I picked up my V from them - 190 miles away but sure worth the trip. At MSRP, No fees, No Port add-ons, No surprises. Perfect transaction. Since then I have referred two Prius buyers to them and they're both very pleased as well.

Best deal - for me it sure was. It's a great car.

DeanFL: Stewart's is still around? Good to know. Worked there in 1979/80 before entering the service. Thanks to everyone for assisting with the pricing. I am hunting.
