I'm looking for whoever has best price on the plastic hood protector/bug deflector for a 2009 prius. I've only found a few places with them and they seem overly expensive, 100+ plus shipping. Anyone know where to get a good deal?
Don't think you'll find them any cheaper. That seems to be the going rate. I am happy with mine - it deflects a lot of the bugs the hood would otherwise catch. Didn't deflect the deer I hit though. :-(
I would have to agree with Bob_Stan, $100+ bucks is indeed the going rate for the Prius bug deflector. I am also thinking if I'm gonna purchase this one: Prius Hood Protector __________________ chevy parts
I think I paid 100 for mine also, I have had it on the Prius for over a year and it looks great and does what its supposed to do Highly recommend this protector
I've been driving on the highway a lot lately and I really hate the volume of bugs that end up on the windshield. Does this thing really make a difference? I kind of don't want to put it on my car because I hate that hole in the middle. I'll compromise if it's easy to take off/put on and actually makes a substantive difference.
I have to agree - that's the one that I have and it is very well constructed. One warning though - it has a clever "no drill" attachment to the hood with some fasteners and hard plastic spacers. If you drop one during installation into the hood area it can get lost real quick (How do I know you might wonder?). If I was doing it again I would spread a drop cloth or tarp over the engine area while attaching it.
I found one at Toyota Parts Store - Toyota Accessories - TRD Parts - TRD Performance Parts - Genuine Toyota Accessories for $71.95 plus shipping. I'll post a pic or two after I get it installed. They don't specifically list one for the 2009 but the 2008 and earlier model years have one listed.

blfuller, How did you make out with the install? I would like to get one for my 2006. Hope all goes well and your happy with it.
boppo & topkick Sorry I haven't updated the install information yet. The hood protector is supposed to be delivered today via FedEX. topkick, I haven't received any PM from you.
Hood protector arrived and installed I received the hood protector today and got it installed. It took about 45 min to install. All you need is a screwdriver and some ispropyl alcohol to clean the areas where the 3M anti-abrasion pads and bumpons are applied. Pretty straight forward. This unit was made in Canada by Focus Auto Design. It looks the same as others with the elliptical cut-out so you can see the Toyota hood badge. It came in a very large box that was about 2.5' x 5' x 6" which explains why the shipping was $19. Anyway, have no fear, these will fit the 2009 all for under $90 and some change shipped.
I have the same Hood Protector for 2004-2009 Prius. Have never installed it, went with a clear bra instead. Anyone interested send me some PM and I will make you a good deal.
Prius engineers pride themselves on designing one of the most aerodynamic vehicles ever made. I am considering purchasing a hood protector for my 2008, but am curious if the protector would significantly alter the aerodynamic profile to the extent that mpg would be noticeably effected. Has anyone experienced this?
How easy are these things to put on and off? The number of chipson the front of the Zhang Heng is getting intolerable, but I want the cover off for car shows.
There are 6 clips that hold this to the hood, 4 along the leading edge of the hood and 1 at each side. Each clip has a phillips head screw that would need to be removed and then the protector could be removed. The only thing that would be still attached to the hood would be the clear protective film.
