i just purchased a 2010 prius , iwould like to purchase an extended warranty . im just wondering about th e typical cost
Search on this forum for prices, typically $1050 for the 7/100K Toyota extended warranty if I recall. But they also just released an 8/125K warranty too.
Dealer invoice cost of the 7year/100,000 warranty is $990. Warrantyshack.com has the same warranty for $1055. Many on here have gotten that warranty through warrantyshack. There are numerous threads discussing this all over the forums, please just do a search and you can find out more.
That would reflect their markup then. As was mentioned, their cost is 990. My assumption would be that warrantyshack is an online provider, and can therefor sell it for less because they have less overhead and do more volume. I do believe it is the exact same warranty.
Re: extended warranty, Read Clark Howard Read Clark Howard about extended warranties. I personally don't think they are a good idea especial on Toyota, even something as complicated as a Prius. My 1978 Corolla would never have needed one. My 1987 FJ60 Landcruiser didn't need one. My 1993 ES300 would have been marginal (it had the dashboard needle problem and oil leaks) but it would have been close to a wash. My 1993 GS300 hasn't had a single problem (Lexus is Toyota every else in the world but the US). My 2006 Corolla was totaled by my daughter so we'll never know, but I seriously doubt it. So I'm keeping my money at least until the current warranty is starting to run out, after all you can always buy it later, plus I may want to modify it and then I would void the warranty. This way I'll have the warranty money for that after market kick nice person battery somebody comes out with in two years. My 2 cents.
Well my 2003 could have used one. I had a 5 year warranty and as soon as it ran out it would need minor repairs here and there. I feel like the car knows when the warranty expires and likes to mess with me.
Don't forget LoraJ you have 3 years or 36K miles to decide. You can buy the Toyota extended warranty anytime until your 3/36 warranty expires. There are a lot more reasons to wait than there are to buy it now. Such as: 1. you might sell the car 2. you can earn interest on the money for 3 years 3. If your car runs as good as I think it will you might change your mind Esoniat suggested reading what Clark Howard has to say about extended warranties, I second that suggestion.
Oops. My bad. Too early in the morning, still on cup of coffee #1, and I misread the previous post!
Just picked up my new metallic blue 2010 Prius II on Friday. I traded in a old friend, my 1995 Corolla wagon. In any case, I am loving this car, but I am a little concerned about big repair costs down the line. The dealer business manager tried to convince me that many of the "synergy drive" parts were not covered under the 8 year warranty. I'm a techy myself, but I didn't tell him that. As far as I can tell most if not all of the expensive hybrid components are covered, but the warrant wording is tricky. He kept referring to computers that wouldn't be coverd past the 36000 mile/3year point. To put this in perspective, we've owned 6 Toyotas since 1984 and the only time we thought there was a computer problem, it turned out to be a loose injector connector. So, does anyone know what really could get expensive to fix in a Prius that's not covered past the 3/36 warranty. Secondly, I can't seem to get to the warranty shack website. I did find a website for Greenfield Toyota (the warrant shack people, I believe). My dealer says the 7 year extended warrant is normally $2200, but he'll give it tom me for $1600.00 if I pay now (not the sign of a good deal). However at $1050.00 from warranty shack, it might be worth it. Your comments are welcome. Thank you.
Look at what is already covered, the battery and hybrid system is covered for almost the entire extend warranty period. The ICE and drive train for over half of the extended warranty. The smaller stuff, radio is all your getting and that just doesn't seem worth it to me. Even with out all the Toyota warranty this isn't a good idea, with what you already have you just don't need it. This car has been on the road for 10 years now, read the reviews, relax, save your money. Oh, and read Clark Howard.
The best place to purchase an online warranty for Priuses is www dot warrantyelite dot com They are the only site that you can get a quote without having to enter any personal information! They have the list price on a 7/100 as 1400 for bumper to bumper coverage! I paid $1000 for my warranty through www dot warrantyelite dot com, for the same coverage. So you could call them and see if they are running any discounts! I hope this helps. Also I check warranty shack and they do not have any info on their site about them and you can't get an online quote. Shady if you ask me...
Just purchased 7/100,000 $0 deductible Platinum Toyota coverage for $974. The actual warranty book has not arrived from Toyota, but I'm expecting it in about 4 weeks. Contact info is below. Keith was very easy to work with. He answered all my questions, and even told me about benefits from day 1 - even before the 3yr 36,000 is over. All the information he required was my name and addreww (same as on the invoice), the VIN number, and payment info. I chose to use VISA, but you might be able to send him a check.
