I have the same tint as priuswei, done in Phoenix, AZ. Here tinting is a must. Many dealers tint all their cars and those that don't will usually throw it in to make a deal. After 3 years it still looks great, there is no interference with any of the electronics, and it only cost me $140 + tax for installation performed in the parking lot at my workplace. One trick is that the installer put 32% tint on the lower part of the rear hatch window so it would match the tint on the upper part of the window (20%).
i tinted my windows practically right after i bought my 2006 Prius. i have llumar tint 35% on all windows except windshield. looks great, keeps the car cooler. what else can you ask for.
Had all windows tinted except for the windshield. Cost was $181. They look good and the tint really does make a difference.
I had my windows tinted on my previous car for 8 problem free years. I had my Prius windows tinted the day after I picked it up. Both side windows and upper back window all at 30%, which complies with my state's law. There is a noticeable improvement in comfort with tinted windows. --TK
Tinted all my windows even the small one in the front, except windshield also got a free wash and vac b4 the tint all for $185 with lifetime warranty
After checking out all the information on tinting, I am scheduled to have "Eleanor" tinted with GeoShield ceramic tint 35% tomorrow morning. It comes highly recommended here and I talked to the manufacturer to make sure it would work in the car. Will post after work is completed and let you know how it goes. Price: $279.00 Living in south Louisiana pretty much dictates having tinted windows, but I have been assured I will not look like a limo. I want to be legal here which I understand max is around 35%.
Llumar ceramic tint, same 35% all around, lifetime no-fault gaurantee. Could have had darker hatch tint, but would rather see better at night. I do have the rear-view camera, but I still like to use it AND glance out the rear when backing. I think tinting unifies the look of the car (You'll rarely see an ad where the windows aren't tinted), keeps it cooler and makes it more comfortable to look out the side windows when in bright sun. Good thing all around.
Picked up "Eleanor" from her tint job today. Looks good and I am very pleased. On Site Audio here in Baton Rouge did it. I would highly recommend them for any audio or after market add-ons. They brought me home and picked me up after the car was finished. They actually CARE if I spend my money there.....novel idea I think!!!
Tinting was one of the first things I did.- 32% on front sides and 13% on rest (except windshield, just a top strip). Keeps the car a lot cooler. The installers got a little carried away with a heat gun and they wound up replacing a door pillar plastic and a complete rear door panel. It was still worth it.
I've had my Prius since May 2008 and I have finally decided to get my windows tinted. I called the Toyota dealership and they quoted me $436.91 includes materials, labor, and tax. How did everyone else get theirs done for below $200?
Tammy, I used the information here about ceramic tints (highly recommended for the Prius because of nav/satellite) and searched on the internet for dealers who installed GeoShield ceramic tint. I found the distributor and manufacturer and got their recommendation for a good installer. Ceramic costs a little more but I didn't want to have any interference with the satellite in the car. I just recently had the dealer place the XM antenna on the roof after having miserable reception with it on the dash. Installation went well; it's been a week. I have had no "bubbles" at all. Very nice job!!
