My Gen II had a very basic alarm. The horn sounded if you opened a locked door without using the FOB. I cannot find any reference to this simple feature in the Gen III. Does it still exist, or is mine not programmed correctly, or what?
I don't see an alarm mentioned anywhere on the Toyota site for the Prius, other than as an add-on accessory. I'm sure if it was offered as a factory option it would be called out like it is for the Highlander Hybrid.
Thanks for checking. Its odd that gen II had it standard, and its a no brainer, doesn't cost toyota anything, its just software. I wonder why they took it away.
On the Gen III, they removed the alarm you referenced for the Gen II. It only has an immobilizer, but you can get the alarm installed (at port or dealer) which also includes a glass break sensor.
Makes sense. They probably lost sales on the optional alarm system, the built in one was good enough for me.
a title is a little misleading if I must be honest. Passive alarm refers to the alarm system being armed regardless of the state of the door locks. IOW, it will arm the car after 30 seconds of the last door to be closed (independent of the doors being locked). What you're referring to is a standard alarm feature.
