    Re: fundamental question

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with them.

I tried looking into offering these a few years ago, and was never able to find a plan or company doing it that I was willing to associate myself with. Besides the fact that these put people in an awkward position any time there is a claim that is less than the cost of the warranty. What do you do if you have a $600 claim, and you paid say $1200.00 for the warranty?

Nothing. I had a friend who bought the warranty for toyota a few years ago and engine failed while driving across the USA with Prius. The total cost of the repair was $5300 and it was covered by the warranty without a problem. And even now his car is still covered 100%.

    reverai,

I think what Troy was hinting at by his example was "what would the original poster do if faced with only a $600 repair/claim?" as far as using his "fully refundable, non-Toyota warranty". Would he put in the claim for the $600 against the warranty & lose out on the $1200 refund or would he pay the small-change $600 out of pocket in hopes that he would never have to use the warranty for another claim &/but keep it in force in case a big expensive repair ever came up in the future (in which case the warranty would pay for itself then)?

However, in Troy's example the end outcome will be the same financially (assuming no other claims). Warranty used : $1200 cost minus $600 claim yields net cost of $600. But warranty not used : $1200 refund minus $600 "out-of-pocket" repair yields net cost of $600.

I ran into the same problem...
Dealer charged me $1445 for the "Toyota Extra Care - Platinum" and $1295 for the "Toyota Auto Care - Premium".
But here in California we have 60 days to cancel (no cost)

I cancelled both from the dealer. I did not appreciate that they had 'over charged' me.

Now I just have to wait for my deposit to be mailed back to me.

Dealers vary in what they charge. Koons in Tyson wanted $1095 for the "Toyota Extra Care - Platinum" for 7 years, 100000 miles.

I think I was ripped-off . Ourisman Fairfax Toyota charged me $1,973 for the Platinum Plus (7 year/100,000 mile). This is a plan from Fidelity Warranty Services, Inc. (a Jim Moran, SE Toyota company). Is the plan that others are talking about also from Fidelity Warranty Services or is it directly from Toyota? Any suggestions how I can get the other (e.g., cheaper) plan?

    Hey, all,

This last post #1130 looks as if it comes directly from Troy (by the signature), but it isnt. I think aapoppa just cut & pasted it within his post to make it easier for gebjeff to get in touch with Troy to find out how to handle his situation & for gebjeff to know that Troy is selling the official Toyota products/extended warranty.

Here's what I got from from Toby (Toyota) although I have 45K on my prius. I dont know which plan is being advocated because Toyota does not offer if you are over 36K/3yr as you can see from this thread. You can see his name on PC in many places. This starts @ current mileage. Things not covered are Hybrid battery system among other things which was disappointing.

    3 year 36000 = $1495.00
    4 year 50000 = $1860.00
    5 year 60000 = $1920.00

All three are Toyota/Lexus platinum warranties with a ZERO deductible.

The battery system is already under the original factory warranty up to 100,000 miles or 8 years. Are you looking for something that extends that warranty?

Yes, because there are many folks who have much more than 100K miles - I saw a lot of literature (not covered - listed below) and was concerned if all of it comes under factory warranty. But then, the warranties max @60K as quoted which mean I really get upto a max of 105K depending on how soon I put.

    Hybrid Vehicle Battery Plug assemby
    Hybrid Vehicle relay assemby
    Hybrid Vehicle Battery Plug assemby

Also, anybody seen better pricing for cars out of 36K/3yr?

It's a violation of Toyota Financial's policy to issue a used car plan (which would be any plan on a vehicle outside of the factory 3/36K warranty), other than right at the time of sale when the dealer is actually selling the car.

So if you find a dealer offering it online they are either violating TFS policy or selling something 3rd party.

Is the 8/125K warranty available for the 2010 Prius? I don' see it on the quote sheet.

    Hello, all,

South Carolina newbie here. I purchased my pre-loved 08 Prius a few days ago (a Saturday) at my local Toyota dealer. At the time (five + hours into the process) the F&I guy pushed the $199.00 "Tire Protection" warranty on me; the $899.00 "Pre-paid maintenance for 5/75K" special on me, and the $1899.00 "Platinum extended 7/100K" extended warranty on me. I signed the paperwork, AFTER noticing the cancellation clause in the microprint.
First thing Monday morning, I walked in (to give them my down-payment check...no checkbook on my person Saturday!) and did NOT give the F&I guy the check until he had re-done the contract cancelling all of the rip-off warranty items (saving me 3K), and, I had called my bank (USAA) who offered me a competing interest rate, and a GAP policy for $199, versus the "bargain" price offered by the initial financier of $499. I went with USAA.

Suffice to say, the F&I guy was not terribly pleased by this turn of events, but pleasantly enough re-did the paperwork, and shook my hand.

Now then, I have the car I wanted at the price I wanted, but, at 36,400 miles, I'm out-of-MFR warranty! I did get a free 7 yr/100K powertrain warranty, as the car is Toyota certified.

Instead of reading through 100+ posts, is there an extended warranty for which I'm eligible that is NOT administered by FWS - "Fidelity Warranty Services" of Pompano Beach FLA?
No offense intended (in advance), but the "Rip-off Report" and other watchdog groups have nothing good to say about this organization.

I traded in an '02 Lexus RX-300 for this Prius, so I am confident already of Toyota quality. Is there an extended warranty out there for me and my circumstances??

I refer you to the very first post in this forum, but you are out of warranty so you may not be eligible. I would immediately investigate the warranty there are ask if there is any leeway on the mileage limit, since you are only above the limit by a little. Don't dally, each mile you drive makes it less likely you can get it.

Will you be offering the 8 year 125,00 mile as described on the Toytoa website? At what cost?
