now there are mitigating circumstances that cause one to get 22.3 mpg, but lets face it, i doubt if he had economy in mind anyway.

i cant wait till summer comes so i can start getting that kind of mileage

 

My best was 63mpg over a weekend of wine country travel. Sadly I've never gotten close to that since then.

 

Took this photo yesterday. Miami to Key West.

 

I have had my new 2005 PRI about two weeks. First 248 miles I averaged 61 MPG. I filled up the other day after 201 miles=2.65 gal
75 MPG. I went up the rode for 2 miles and top off the tank again because I could'nt believe the tank was full. It took .24 cents to top it off.
Is this possible??

 

The picture below was taken May 14, after driving from Saratoga, Wyoming to Castle Rock, Colorado. We filled up - 4.4 gallons - simply because Castle Rock has the cheapest gas on Colorado's front range.

The tank mileage maxed out at 73.6 mpg after 165 miles - the end of the 5000-foot descent from Cameron Pass - but that 73.6 mpg also included the 3500-foot ascent. The net descent from Saratoga to Castle Rock is only 576 feet.

On that descent, we also managed to fill the consumption screen with 99.9 mpg bars:

58.2 this morning on my 30 mile commute! Having owned the Prius for less than 24 hours at that!

I know I can do better, and WOW, some of you folks..... NICE!

I purchased a 2005 Prius on Jan 5/05. Have travelled (note travelled has two L's in Canada) just over 3,000K and have averaged 4.3 kilometers per 100 K. Does the Prius have readouts in both miles and kilometers as the Canadian cars do? On consumption it only shows kilometers per 100k and have to manually convert to MPG which is on average 63/65 MPG. Thge Canadian gallon (imperial) is approx. 20% more than the US Gal

I got this mileage commuting to work. 15 miles one way, city driving, moderate hills.

Total Miles: 607
Avg MPG: 64.5

I had a VERY light accelerator foot.

 

Way to go! That's in the 800 mile tank range, easy.

I'm above 60 on this tank but I can't imagine 64.5 on my commute. Too much highway mileage.

I am finally able to post that I beat the EPA highway estimate!


Technically my first tank beat it, but I think it was an elevation change mostly (455.8 8.991 50.7 gallons)


But 26 tanks later, I got 520.7 miles on 10.34 gallons (50.34 MPG!) going almost all but maybe 20 miles on instertate cruising at 72 or 73 from Lubbock TX to Holdenville OK! 50 mph on the interstate! Weather was in our favor though, as we didn't have to run the AC, just the vent. The screen had us at 52.0 until a made a few quick runs in town that dropped it to 51.


To be fair, the mileage back was Tank 460.3 9.979 (46.13 Mpg). However we drove through several severe storms in which we had to drop our speed to about 20 or 30 mph with high winds, rain, and hail for about twenty or twenty five minutes. In addition, the last two hours of the trip averaged 75 mph with the A/C.

I am anxiously awaiting beating the city estimates! For the first twenty five miles, I was at 65.0, but am currently at 64.1 with 50 miles so far. 600 mile+ tank, here I come!

How light? How about speed? Was this a net gain or net loss in altitude?

 

at 600 miles what goes down must come back up sooner or later. great tank!!

Note:
I try not to upset fellow drivers by going too slow, so when I'm travelling in traffic, I usually go close to, or slightly exceed, the speed limit.

Since I leave for work at 5:00 am, the roads are empty. This gives me the opportunity to vary my speed according to the terrain. I coast down hills and my speed reaches 50-55 mph. When I climb hills, my speed drops to 20-25 mph and occasionally drops to 10 mph. Since I travel through residential neighboorhoods I don't feel too bad about going this slow on the way to work. On the way home, during rush hour, I do travel the 25 mph speed limit going up hills and greater than the speed limit on the down slopes.

I do accelerate very slowly after a dead stop. Since I pay close attention to the light. I start moving within a second of the light turning green so I get a jump on the other cars. This keeps people from getting too upset at my pace.

My coworkers poke fun at me for going this slow and say that my average miles per gallon isn't valid because I don't drive like a "Normal" driver. My retort is that going this slow only adds 5-10 minutes to my commute. I am very willing to sacrifice this time to get great mileage.
