I am supposed to pick up my 2010 IV NAV. Now I hear that in 2-3 weeks that there will be an ipod interface installed in future cars. Should I pass on the car and wait until September?
First, you posted the question an hour ago, you don't really expect someone to be waiting to answer the question do you? Second, you're the only one that can answer the question, you either want an integrated ipod/iphone factory interface or you don't. Why would you rely on someone who isn't going to be driving the car to determine that for you?
Now, now fellows, let's not be to harsh on each other. Steviet, if you want to be a member of this forum, you need to be a tad more patient. If you start complaining that no one is answering then people will definitely flame you. Keep in mind that just as you wait patiently for a response, somebody will eventually patiently take the time to answer your question. Just giving you a heads up for this forums. Slkram, I realize it wouldn't make sense for us to decide for him, but i dont think that's his intention. I think he simply wants some input or advice as to whether he should or not. Everyday people post questions like this, right? And so Steviet, Slkram makes a good point in that it will ultimately depend on how badly you want the I pod interface. If you think extending your wait time on your car is worth the interface, then go ahead. However, I personally wouldn't it. Main reason being, if you simply just get the car you are already waiting for, you can always add the I POD interface later. Your dealer will install it for you for around 260+
There's a recent thread that discusses pricing and real world functionality, so review that to see if it matches your expectations. The MSRP of every car with nav is going to be raised when this is added, so there's not much point in waiting, other than to save on the install labor if your dealer does it. However, they are also adding safety connect, which cannot be added later and which is adding to the increased MRSP.
Ask the dealer what sort of interface your vehicle has. I just went to a dealer here in Raleigh, NC (this very morning) and the model with nav they had sitting (waiting for the owner to pick up) already had the USB interface! The salesman said he'd been seeing them and to be honest I didn't believe him since I thought it would be later but he got the key and let me sit in the car and sure enough it said USB/Auxiliary input and showed IPOD and USB on the nav screen. So your car may already have it.
