While discussing doing the 5000mi maintenance on my Prius, it was recommended to ditch the OEM tires and go with another tire. The GoodYear ComforTread sounded like what I was looking for. Turns out there is currently a $40 Manufacturer MIR when you buy 4, so anywhere you get them should have this rebate avail. The cheapest I found was $71/tire at Tirerack (+$32 for shipping to St. Louis area... so basically free shipping). Unfortunately, none of the NTBs in St. Louis carry this tire, so I couldn't get em to price-match. Just wanted to give you all a head's-up.
Anyone have any luck making a deal with the dealer to trade off the Integrity for ComforTreads while you have low mileage?
I told my dealer that I wouldn't drive my new Prius off the lot with the Integrity tires, so they made arrangements with JustTires to upgrade to the Comfortreds. They had the tires on before I got to the dealership to pick it up and I just had to pay the difference between the prices of the two tires. I had that arrangement worked out with another dealer before I went to someone else to get the car, so you shouldn't have a huge problem. It helps to speak directly to the Service Manager. Good luck!
It really depends on where you get the exchange...the difference in price that I paid was $26 (at JustTires), TireRack.com shows a difference of $21, and Sam's Club shows a difference of just over $16. The only place close to the dealership that I bought my Prius from was JustTires, so I agreed to pay the extra $26 per tire + mounting costs to get the better tire. Call your dealer and ask to talk to the Service Manager - say that you're not comfortable with the Integrity and that you'd really like to have the Comfortreds. Most dealerships will be more than willing to find a solution to keep you happy.
