Has anyone done this to their car? When I get my Prius I definitely want LED headlights (but I didn't get that package because I want the sunroof) I know eventually someone will make an aftermarket full lamp housing replacement.. but this looks promising Xenon HID White 18 SMDs LED H11 HeadLight Light Bulbs:eBay Motors (item 280372587756 end time Jul-22-09 21:44:49 PDT)
i did not read the info yet but looking at the picture that will not be bright enough it looks like a 18 smd led. for my backlight i have 25 smd led's
Thanks for the info! I love the color of LEDs and that they use such little power. Hopefully someone will come out with something good
two things... LEDs are lower voltage, so the Prius may give you a headlight burned out error stacked LEDs usually means they are lower wattage and that means lower light output...
has anyone seen the factory LED headlights? Is it a totally new housing or something similar to these...with LED's in a standard H11 bulb format? I'm curious to see if we could just reapply what the OEM uses on our II-IV's...
I'm not familiar with the company, but automatically get suspicious when they (and there are lots of companies that do this) describe something as "Xenon" and "HID" when they're neither.
I have a Prius V (w/ the LED headlights) and the headlight housing is unique--and different than the halogen housing on the Prius II - IV. There are 3 sets of LEDs on each side--2 on the lower/outer side, and 1 along the top. See attached for more info.
I am new to this forum and I do not own a Prius YET.. but am planning to make a purchase soon. The LEDs on ebay is only good for backup lights so forget about it if you plan to install it for headlights... However, for those who insist on retrofitting their headlights with LED, the headlight burned out error may occur (I do not know if Prius have any sensor of the sort like a Benz) - but you can simply override that by attaching a resistor to the headlight wiring assembly. Now here is my question. For those who have the LED Headlight, can you please kindly check if the LEDs are use as hi/lo beam, or is it just another driving light like the Audi R8s. Here's what I am thinking... if the LEDs are just parking lights, then there is really no point to do a LED Headlamp conversion to begin with. However, if the LEDs are used as Hi/Lo beam, then it should be easier to just buy the LED headlamp from the stealership and do a headlamp swap. Again, I don't have the own the Prius but I am interested in doing some cosmetic mods should I own one. *Note - I own a Turboed Honda Fit, Im active on fitfreak.net... but Im planning to save our environment by going green *
Thanks for pointing me to the right direction. Any chance you can take a few snap shots of the LEDs shinning 1) Against a wall and 2) on the road surface? Need visual comparison between LED lowbeam vs HIDs. If its not too much of a "color" difference (presuming 6000K), I may just go for LED headlights
I love the ebay add: title = "...Headlight Bulbs" fine print = "They will work as headlight but are recommended for Foglights or as High Beams."
the cost of swapping out the lighting housings and adding the needed leveling sensor in the rear bumper would be so costly, you are better off buying 2 prius: drive a II-IV during the day hours, and drive a V during the evening hours. The smarter thing is to do what I plan on doing: buy a V and add an aftermarket moonroof. I won't get the solar panels, but I will get a sensor that closes the moonroof automatically if it detects rain. Or I may just exercise some patience and see if Toyota will eventually offer a prius with both solar moonroof and LED headlamps.
