From the tv ads I've been seeing it looks like you have have push button start on several other cars. The Avalon Limited seems to be the, non Prius, low end at 34K. There is the Lexus GS300 at 44K and GS450 at 53K. (This is the only feature shown in the tv ads.) And the Intiniti M35 at 39K and M45 at 47K. Sure makes the Prius seem like a very goog buy!
Sure, as the Smart ENtry systems become more and more popular (just like the Keyless Entry 10 years ago), the push-button Start system would become standard. I wouldn't be surprised if a Civic has that as standard in, say, 5 years. Currently, the other drivers in my company who could enjoy the same Smart Entry system are Lexus LS430 owners. Those are $65K vehicles!
I think the Prius is the smarter car... our button says 'POWER'... the Lexus ad shows that the button says 'START'...hmmmmmm  Bob Andersen
The "Engine Start Stop" is for those people who can't fathom that the same button can be used to turn the car on as well as turn it off. I've yet to see a post here from a Prius owner claiming, "I've found the POWER button but can't find the OFF button." The first time my wife saw the Lexus commercial, she assumed it was the hybrid, like the Prius. But I calmly explained, "nope it's just a smart entry system like the Prius but with a $60,000 old-fashioned car wrapped around it."
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TonyPSchaefer\";p=\"76135)</div> Those would be the people who are confused with the Light Switches in their house.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(BobA\";p=\"76080)</div> Yes! According to the Lexus web site you push the button once to turn on the ignition and then with the foot on the brake push it again to start. Gee, my Prius only requires one push.
really? hmm... I tried the Avalon's one and it's the same procedure. Foot on brake, press. wait. engine turns on
Oh, I tried the new BMW 3 series. Inserting the fob into the slot automatically engages ACC mode. Press the button once to get ON. Foot on brake to start the car.
The 2005 Corvettes have push button start as well. Base price starts at $44,000 but I have yet to see one under $50K.
A buddy of mine had a '68 (I think) Plymouth with push buttons for the gears.. there was one for each gear P & N! We did alot of space truckin' in those days! I love the "joystick" in my prius! It blows people away when they see me shift! - AL
During the early '60's my mom had a push button Plymouth transmission. When ever you pushed a button all the others would launch out onto the floor!
