Hey Everyone, I just bought a 2009 Black Prius two weeks ago and picked it up a week and a half ago - it's sweet! I love it. I had my car in to the shop because I noticed the car wasn't beeping when I locked the doors. Just flashing it's lights. The doors do lock thankfully. They checked my Prius out, ensured the beep was on in terms of the programming but my car is not beeping with locking. So I'm wondering - I have a base 2009 Prius - is the car supposed to beep when locked? Or is that an "option" that is only available with the premium packages? I'm assuming not but thought I'd check here first before I take the car in to get this issue fixed.
Mine beeps once when locking with the fob and beeps twice on unlock. I have SKS so I'm not sure if it's different with the non-SKS version.
What does your manual say is supposed to happen? I'm away from home right now and can't check for you. I have the SKS also, but I think that the "full" (red printed cover) owner's manual covers all the feature's for both base and SKS epuipped versions. The "short" manual (green printed cover) does not have as much detail.
Can anyone say for sure if the 2008 Canadian base model has the ability to beep or not when locking and unlocking the doors? I agree that it's not entirely clear in the manual. We got our 2008 a three weeks ago now, and I with that it would beep when locking and unlocking the doors. Currently it only flashes the orange parking lights. I was in a parking lot the other day and noticed a man getting into his gen II prius, and his did have the beeps. If I had of been closer I might have asked him when year and package his Prius was. My 2009 beeps, but I don't use the remote button, just the door button with the sks system. The one you heard may also have had sks. I'm assuming you don't?
Mine is the '09 WITH the sks and it does not beep when I lock or unlock it with the remote key, only blinks lights.
Just picked up my 2009 BASE model Prius. It didn't produce a beep feedback when locking/unlocking with the nonSKS remote. The technicians at the dealership said this model doesn't come with the option to turn the beep on or off. My friend who owns the 2009 "Premium" prius (JBL speakers+bluetooth+backupcam w.out nav) has the beep on his car. Another thing I've noticed is the MFD on the base seems to be lower resolution than the "premium" prius, which I guess 'needs' a higher res MFD for the backup cam
