I am being told that Cash 4 Clunkers is over tonight, 7/30, at midnight. The Gov't appears to be out of money... and I can also see that stated up at CNBC.com as well. Our dealership is not doing any more C4C deals after midnight tonight. Guess I am here till 12 midnight (again, sigh).... Dianne
"Through late Wednesday, 22,782 vehicles had been purchased through the program and nearly $96 million had been spent." Feds putting brakes on ‘cash for clunkers' | National | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle
In my opinion, part of the benefit of the C4C program was the removal of guzzlers and their replacement with higher efficiency vehicles. I can't speak to whether or not we, as a country, have the money but I wouldn't mind seeing a permanent program in which someone receives a rebate for purchasing a new car that achieves 10+ mpg better than their trade-in.
URGENT. BREAKING NEWS. Toyota Motor Sales has been notified by the National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA) that the CARS AKA Cash for Clunkers Program is being suspended EFFECTIVE AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT, July 30, 2009. NHTSA has advised us that the program will be suspended so that the government can reassess the remaining funds and get current on the payment of claims that have been and will be submitted. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
Only 10? I believe truly it needs to go higher. For that kind of credit, maybe $2500 bucks to go to 10 higher, and $3500 to go 20 higher, and 4500 to go 25 or more higher. That would have been the appropriate way to handle this. Just my own opinion after my experience this past week with the program.
Ouch!.... I know a lot of people had plans to take advantage of that, but damn, you snooze you loose huh? 'Cash for Clunkers' Runs Out of Gas - WSJ.com
The cash for clunkers is about the only govt bailout money for the little guys and not the banks. I say extend...only 349bn more to match what the banks got in the 1st round.
Cash 4 Clunkers Well, we're still doing this clunkers thing. Folks who got in early on this are fortunate, because no one planned for the extra 2 Bil added to the program, and now, we're all so pathetically low on stock, it's caused a pricing jump on all cars. Our deals are now gauged at MSRP and a small discount (on all Toyota product) and I am at MSRP on Prius. We're selling in advance of the cars arrivals by 2-3 weeks now.
I'm waiting until all the madness dies down. That and CT is supposed to reinstate tax credits for 2010 hybrid models but that piece of legislature keeps getting pushed around.
