There are currently 100 kits on thier way to San Francisco, due to arrive August 3rd. It could take a week to get through customs. So by 8/10, there will be plenty in stock. All of us who have already ordered the kit are waiting on the same shipment. You probably won't see much in the way of MPG reports until late August or early September.

Looking forward for this. Being in Quebec, where gas price is higher than the US, and electricity is much cheaper, the ROI is a LOT faster at 2k$ for a PHEV system.

I just want to see one first ;)

Also, did I read wrong in the FAQ? That the LiPO's only retain their charge for 1hr? It's item #15.

    1. How do you have a fan to keep the battery pack cool? No. There is limited current output in our kit and very low internal resistance in this type of battery comparing with Nickel Metal Hydrate. And it only lasts for one hour. No significant heat builds up.

I'm sure it's just an Engrish issue, if someone could explain what was meant, appreciate.

LOL, you should read the Thunder Sky users manual for the batteries. I fell out of my chair reading that.

But to answer your question, what they mean is that under normal operation, you will get about an hour of assist before the pack is depleted. Jack's comment was that there is more heat generated by the converter than by the batteries. Based on the claimed efficiency of the converter of 90-95%, that would mean between 150 and 300W of heat generated by the converter.

Is there a ROI calculator for PHEV, where you can input your yearly avg mileage, the gas cost and the electricity cost?

If not, if someone gets me the formulas, I could build such a website calculator. Get my hands dirty in php again. Hosting could even be here on PC, etc.
I'd release the code in Open Source of course.

This kit seems to be a game changer (finally!).

    Why can't Jack post here?

Is it because a certain someone complained?

I find it rich that this website jumps on something like this, but when I ordered two items from the PriusChat store I couldn't get them to respond for weeks regarding an issue with my order.

Just got my Fedex number today. My kit should be delivered by 8/4. I guess you ordered after me or I got a kit that is already in San Francisco?

Yes, Jack Chen from Enginer.us was banned because of one person.:( Some people are too quick to complain and then it's too late to fix things. If anyone wants to get more info, we have plenty in this thread.

Its okay. Just google Enginer.us and their website will pop up. They have been very prompt to answer any emails:).

Cool, take a picture of it in the box, maybe with someone standing next to it (legshot). I'm curious how big it is, and how it is packaged when it arrives.:)

Perhaps that one person can contact the moderator. One spam to one person hardly seems a reason to ban someone -- particularly someone who might be a real boon to the nascent PHEV movement.

If nothing happens in a couple of days I'll start a petition.

Looks like they are a bus/limo manufacturer. Galaxy Coach :: Manufacturer of Luxury, Reliable, Yet Affordable Motor Coaches, Bus, Bus shell.

Maybe they are planning on hybridizing some of their limos. :) Either way, I expect they'll have plenty of room for the install.

For those wanting to get Jack back on the boards, may I suggest voicing your opinion in this thread which already has at least one moderator's attention.

I own the 4KW kit and today I drove 51 miles at 94.9MPG. The battery low light did not light but the balancer started beeping and I have one bad cell that needs replacing. The drive consisted of mostly city 35 to 45mph with about 8 mile highway at 60mph. The ICE was off a good share of time except when accelerating hard. The OEM battery is always at 9 bars.

    one bad cell? that fast..

i did hear about those yellow thundersky battery's in the past not being that great.. lots of bad cells

i hope that is solved in 2009.

maybe you dont have a bad cell but just need the pack to balance itself for a while?

I just purchased Jack's 2007 that he had in Madison. I'm looking forward to many years of high mileage driving with it.

Not neccesarily a bad cell. It is just the lowest cell of the bunch. You would expect that to happen. The BMS alarms at 2.8V. The other cells could be at 2.9 or 3.0V. In that case it would be normal situation. If the other cells are at 3.2 or higher, then I might consider changing out the cell.

I have not been able to find any incidents of bad cells since 2005. In in that particular case, the batteries were Lithium Cobalt (White Case) not LiFePO4 (Yellow Case). If anyone knows of an incident with poor quality that occurred after 2005 with LiFePO4 (Yellow Case) batteries, please let me know.

Yes, I realized that, sorry I wasn't clear. I don't know what is so special about 2005 and beyond, but I haven't been able to find any issues since then with my google searches. Thunder Sky Battery Limited has a CE mark and ISO9000:2001 certificate but I can't read the dates on them.

Another interesting bit that I found on thier website:

I have met Jack Chen a few times and I would vote to have his posting privileges reinstated. Banning for one spam message is overly harsh. He has a good product and it would be helpful for all of us to be able to benefit from his knowledge.
