I'm not sure I'm in total agreement here but it irks me that new "clunkers" (<=18 mpg combined) and vehicles w/GVWR >8500 lbs. (exempt from fuel economy testing) can still be legally manufactured and sold to consumers.

I'm talking vehicles like virtually all full-sized SUVs (e.g. Suburbans, Tahoes, Escalades, Yukons, Expeditions) and exempt vehicles like most Navigators, Hummer H2s, etc.

Most of these drivers have no real need for them, professional or otherwise. They ought to be illegal to buy except for legitimate business purposes.

Do you even know what is down the road if you allow people to lose all the jobs and we have 15-20% unemployment? Please get your head out of the sand and think about the society we are in, I bet you over 60% of the people on this board work in a profession that don't generate/build anything. Our economy is built based on consuming and spending, as long as spending is for a good clause and are reasonable, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. As I said before, I am smart enough to think for myself and I don't listen to the left or right side propaganda and other BS. The next time you drop a comment like that, think about who you might be hurting. What is there long term if the economy tanks completely?

Here is an example. If you don't believe me, look at the local restaurants and see how well they are doing.........

How do you know for sure we are going to go further in debt? The $4500 you spent on his Fit might be enough to keep a person out of employment (let's not even go into what he is going to spend and taxes), think about the new tax and extra insurance revenue you can generate from the new car. The parts/service he will order down the road will contribute into the economy, also the taxes he pays on those parts, (In his situation, he is not going to do much since he made a smart choice by buying a good car). In a trillion dollar economy, people are crying over money that are immaterial. If you are going to complain, maybe you should think about all the trips politicians take for their lobbyists or the money we spent looking for WMD. Also let's assume the guy buys a $15K car and pays 7% in sales tax, basically the feds just gave $1K to the state government. If you are lucky, maybe you will get a cut in your state refunds. (You have a better chance of see the man upstairs)

As the other poster said, the guy making $30K a year is most likely consuming more in taxpayers money than contributing. Let's say if you make $30K AGI per year, it means you are in the 15% tax bracket. You will pay $4500 in taxes. On the other hand, a guy who is making $80K AGI (assuming no deduction) has to pay roughly $17K in taxes (roughly 25% tax on anything over 33K). How is that fair to him? Once again, your argument shafts the middle class people. I am sorry, but you might want to get the rich people out of the sand and give a bone to the people who work hard everyday.

Kids paying for their parents. Yes, wait until their medical bills show up in your mail. That's what some companies are doing now in states that allow them to. Also our country was founded on freedom to a bunch of things, yet it doesn't seem to stop slavery, women's inequality, racism, etc....

Oh by the way, I wonder who pays for all the jet flybys at the NASCAR races. Maybe you should complain about wasteful spending, not stimulus spending.

Please note that this thread is not on the merit of the program. Just the logistics of paying out so many applicants in a relatively short time span. In addition not all dealers are waiting till Monday and prior deals will be submitted on Monday to the program.

It does seem like a very large version of musically chairs. There is bound to be numerous people without a seat in the end.

P.S. If you would like to discuss the merit of the program, please start a new thread. :)

Yeah, take political soapbox elsewhere! From a logistics standpoint, I would really be suprised if a "lot" (meaning more than about 5000) fully complete and accepted applications are processed tomorrow. Since the dealers all did not know till Friday morning exactly how they were going to have to disable the cars they have taken in and also that they were going to need certifications from the scrappers and salvage auctions with signatures from authorized scrap dealers to complete their applications to get paid back by Feds, their just hasn't yet been enough time to get everything done to submit a truly complete application for processing. Getting the docs from customers really is almost their easiest part. Just educate the salespersons as to what docs are required. Dealing with all the Fed red tape BS is going to be more of an issue. I also predict servers crash again tomorrow am!

I have all the paperwork ready in my hand (apps, reg and new and old insurance and bank check), let's see if the dealer will let me take the car today. If not, I am going to ask for my Q back and buy the Toyota from the other dealership down the street.
