First, congratulate me! I ordered a Prius II today. The dealer said that almost all of the cars come in with floor mats, which cost $200. I've had cars without floor mats, and I'm not sure what their advantages are. Can anyone help me? In addition, can I get floor mats that are just as good on the after-market?
Your gonna hate these ones too... they are very cheap/flimsy. I would have rather put the $ towards some all-weather type myself. I believe Toyota also has the all-weather type. You might ask the dealer if they can swap. Peter
Unless you're a rental company that removes the floor mats and put them back in right before they sell (to hide the wear and tear on the actual carpeted floor), they're almost a necessity.
I believe floor mats are required for the prius? As for the cost, they shouldn't charge more than $125 as an add on. You can buy the OEM floor mats for Gen II on Prius Chats Shop for $99.99. Not sure if they offer the mats for the Gen III yet. As for the benefits, mats are a good way to keep the car's carpet clean. If you spill something in the car, you can simply take the mats out and clean them. They are relatively easy to maintain. Also, I think cars look better with the floor mats. I'm sure that most of the aftermarket options are just as good as the OEM ones. Another alternative is all weather floor mats. These are usually cheaper than carpet mats and good for extreme weather.
I must say, Toyota has a habit of dictating its' customers' needs that I find annoying. I wouldn't mind paying 200 bucks for a set of quality all-weather mats (especially as "summer" here in the Northeast is turning into an extended mud season) but for "cheap/flimsy" ones? No thanks. I'll be asking our dealer to eat 'em.
I saw there is a brand name Kraco that provide some good quality floor mat. I saw them at Target and Pep Boy and they are about $29.99-59.99 depends on the different texture and thickness. I am thinking to get the Premium one with Scotch Guard for $59.99
Every dealer I spoke with was willing to throw in a set of 5 all weather matts at NC. Most did not want the carpeted matts back they were port installed. When I got them home saw why - cheapest made OEM I have ever had. BUT the all weather matts are very nice. I put one of the carpeted matts under the AW matt on the driver's front side since there is always that area near the gas peddle that does not get covered. PS Cargo matt does not have a lip like my CRV but can't have everything.
Around here some cars come in with the carpeted mats (floor and cargo) and some don't. About the only accessories I've seen them with are the mats and wheel locks. I bought the all weather mats, and have the carpeted mats stored under the bed in my guest room.
If I can ever get my hand's on a Prius I will have to ditch the carpet and get the all weather floor mats:rockon:
The $200 is for ... carpet floor mats And cargo mat, custom fit for your Prius and logo'd. I don't find them to be cheap and flimsy. I'm in the habit of using a clear mat over the carpet mats, but that's just me being persnickety.
I bought a pearl (or is it blizzard) white Prius II. It came with black carpet mats, which might hide dirt but look bad against the bisque interior color including the carpeting. I plan on buying rubber mats from Weather Tech and will toss the carpeted mats. Too bad I didn't think to leave them with the dealer when I picked up the car.
The mats are fine and are easy to clean. They fit perfectly, the Prius logo is on them, they have the clips for the drivers side so they don't slide up. The cargo mat is nice also.
I liked the look of the mats in my misty gray interior. My only issue with the carpeted mats was that when wearing tennis shoes and exiting the vehicle, the grip of the shoe and the twisting of my right foot would invariably pull the mat up so that the front edge would be laying on the brake pedal. That, and while the cargo mat was nice, stuff would slide all over the place. A set of Toyota all weather mats solved both problems.
I think the floor mats look great and would hve ordered them if they didn't come with the car. I don't usually go to the snow and it doesn't rain here that much so the carpet type are fine. They are cushy to put your feet on and tend to cut out some noise. A nice looking touch.
I still have the plastic paper that comes with the car after they service your car on top of mine cheap floor mat. Planning to get All-weather mat soon.
