Well...my Sales Rep called today and said essentially that they can't get my car...Toyota's not building them yet. I 'ordered' a Black exterior/Dark Grey interior V w/ NO options...just 3 little accessories (alarm, floor mats, and bumper applique) in a straight MSRP deal. SR says they don't know how long it would be, and went thru an almost apologetic upsale attempt to a V w/ NAV. I guess those are starting to become available.... I'm cogitating about it.... Got my 1 month old $500 deposit back w/ no hassle....but I'm not any happier. Kudos to Germain Toyota tho...they could have held it for who knows how long. Soooo...any stripped down Black (or WinterGrey) Vs out there? jm
My dad has a III with the regular jbl radio and I have the V with AT. I know $1800 is a lot of money but for the money I think the nav works great and on a V it just feels like it 'belongs' in there. (The nav screen that is) Still, I know it stinks when you have your heart set on something and you just can't get it. I hope you either have the patience to wait or you can find a dealer somewhere else, even if a trip is involved, that can get it for you. Good Luck!
On custom orders, that's up to your selling dealer. I wouldn't charge any extra. You, on the other hand, will have to find a dealer who is willing AND who knows how......
shouldn't be. the only drawback to custom orders is the time frames involved. at launch in May, it was announced that pkg #1's would not be available until September, so is it, your dealer did not tell you that?
Dianne, I don't know what CA is like, but if the region doesn't bring that option in (or lack of in this case) then a "custom" order isn't happening. It's still possible to get other ways but would take some time & luck!
Actually, that's not true. My region, his region, your region... a custom order is just that - a custom order. My region isn't bringing in V package cars with NO options either, but I could still order one. I just won't bother to preference one. That would waste time.
OOPS... actually i completely missed yours!.... ok, so now i am confused. what is your dealers excuse?? why could he not come up with the excuse when you ordered? what was time frame from order to notification that your option is not available? what is he doing to correct the issue? depending on those answers, next question would probably be... "so who is your new dealer?" **edit** ok... reread post, so it was a month?? hmmm, sure there is some disconnect with factory and distribution and finally the dealer, but a month to advise the option is not available?? i think your dealer is dragging his feet. probably knew about it a week after you ordered and decided to wait a bit to get your anxiety up and to wait for an immediate supply of "upsale" options...
Dianne, we can "order" the car too, but it's been my experience that Japan produced veh. take an excessively long time. You may have better luck due to port proximity & higher pop. density. Domestically produced, no problem, I just did a Venza that popped up quickly. I think I'd get the Prius faster with an out of region A swap.
It's perfectly OK for any dealership to NOT want to order cars custom. While I am happy to do so for anyone, I also have risk involved. If I order and you (in the meantime) find something else, then I still have your car coming, and have to sell it. It is not an extra car. It displaces one I would normally earn. That said, would I like to have a "base" V package in 4 months? I wouldn't like to have it - no. And, I cannot penalize you for cancelling because I cannot keep your deposit. That is why most stores won't special order. You need a special relationship with your customer to ensure you're not left holding the proverbial bag - a morphadite car in 3-4 months that no one wants ....
Domestic production cars are a snap. Three, four weeks, car's on ground at the store. Japan cars = 3-4 months. Can't a-trade unless the ships are coming to the same port... so unless something's coming to the LA port in a region that's getting a strippie V car in A,k you can't A trade. I don't rely on A trades with strange cars - you can't.
Re: TMC not building my car...back to square 1---SOLVED... After 2 weeks of sulking I re-contacted another local dealer....somewhat farther away, about 35mi from my home. This Internet Manager had been sending me periodic 'checking up' emails ever since I contacted him ~mid April. Yesterday, I informed him of my tale of woe... An hr and a half later, he called and said he found my car! They're going to send one of their 2 flatbeds out to pick it up...no charge to me. How 'bout that!!! I could have the Pri by end of next week. I guess they do this 'all the time'...but I'll believe it when I see it. But I have a VIN(!) and a signed Sales agreement...! Sooo....kudos to Toyota West in the Automall on the the West side of Columbus!
Yep, it is in their inventory already at Toyota West. The funny thing is, the dealership that it is coming from is about 1.5 hours away from me in Illinois. Good thing they flat bedded it. They just have to install the rear bumper applique and the alarm.
