and IN with the carbon fibre lookalike.

Rear Toyota emblem coverup. Purchased carbon fiber film from metrodecals.com in Michigan. LOTS of choices, but I got two types of carbonfiber lookalike. Very pleased with both when they arrived today (3 days after order). Decided on diagonal textured-look. BTW $3.95 per 2'X1' sheet. Very cheap - good quality material.

Had the back hatch inner panel off from my backup camera install a few days ago. So, 4 bolts hold the painted rear panel housing the emblem in place. Remove with deep socket. Detach the connector for the electric hatch lock button assembly. Need to snap out the panel as it has some plastic fittings too. Quite easy. Of course protect the paint finish. It's out - BUT don't let the hatch close (as I did). You'll need to put a seat down and bring the panel in thru the back seat and attach the connector - push the button and unlatch the hatch again...

The emblem is plastic and has 3 catches. I adhered the carbon fiber film onto the blue/black plastic piece and trimmed with Exacto knife. Back onto the chrome emblem and onto the painted panel. Snap the panel back onto the hatch and install the 4 bolts and connector. Reinstall the inner hatch panel. Done.

Looks SO MUCH better, especially against the Barcelona Red. Very pleased with the carbon fiber look - classy. Next is the front emblem. I also bought some light smoke out film - looking into doing something about the clear/white tailight lenses, especially the sides.

I only used a 4X6" piece of the 2'X1' film - and have the entire piece of the smaller-square carbon fiber film. Will need a bit more for the front emblem, but will have leftovers. PM me if you'd like some to do yours - we could do it with a self-addressed stamp envelope type of thing --- freebee for PC folks....

Dang, Dean. You are modding the Prius with a lot of good taste! I love your updates so far. I hope that being in FL we can meet some time when I get mine.

My wife likes the blue, but I was wanting to go with body color behind the emblem. We'll see who wins this battle. :)

Wow Dean, I never had a problem with the blue emblems, but that looks hella sweet. I think we'll be seeing a lot more mods like this is the upcoming weeks and months! :)

Nice DIY instructions & pix! I like the look--never was a fan of the blue highlights.

I looked on their site and they have lots of different products--which specific one did you use?

Thanks, I got the #1 and #2 Carbon Fiber vinyl. And used the #2 version as shown. I was quite surprised with the variety of films they offer. Quite sure there are other sites/suppliers out there, but they worked out fine for me.

Anyone considering this treatment for the spoiler (maybe some more substantial film)? I like the emblem difference - almost Scion like.

Actually that had been suggested to Danny in previous posts in other threads. Not certain as to potential interest.

And FYI - the carbon fiber film material I used for the emblem is apparently used by Pimpers for hoods / rear decks etc. They included comments on the Film Supplier's site.

For me personally, I'm a bit conservative on the spoiler = like the solid black as it blends with the hatch windows.

Nice job. I can understand how you don't like blue on red, but I'm a fan of blue on black or white.

Totally agree. IMO only the Red and Sandy Beach really clash with the blue. Actually looks great with some of the other colors. I saw a road test of the new Lexus RX Hybrid - and that has the blue behind the Lexus emblem. As noted on PC, that emblem background is the new designation for a Toyota hybrid vehicle.

I'll add that the blue emblem on the blue Prius doesn't look so great either. it is a near mismatch of shade and (in my opinion) cheapens it a bit.

I ordered the carbon fiber cover. I think I would have preffered straight gloss black, but didn't come to that conclusion until after I placed the order. Oh well, we'll see how it looks.

While it wasn't my intention, I am slowly darkening up the whole car. I already have the sunroof, so there is just as much black on it as there is blue. I tinted the windows for heat reduction, but because of all of that, the hubcaps looked terrible - almost white by comparison. I had more than one person ask about why it came with "white" hubcaps. I have since had them refinished in black gloss. Now it seems that I will be darkening the embems as well.

Is there anything else behind the blue insert? Meaning if I removed insert, and put the badge back on the car, would I only see smooth paint? Hopefully there isn't any screw holes etc. that is being covered by the insert.

There is - a black plastic plate in which the emblem (its 3 latches) snap into. That's the front. So no body-painted area. No doubt to enable the front radar module to be mounted, for the V ATP.

The rear, the emblem snaps into the painted panel just under the hatch window - and I'll be darned if I can recall (it was a couple weeks ago) if that painted panel had another piece between it and the emblem itself. I'm almost sureit did not - ie, body paint is directly behind the rear emblem.

The attached link, and pics, show the front with the emblem off.
