    I looked to see if this had been reported earlier... but didn't see any posts...

    If I walk up to my Gen III Model II, and if my iPod and keyfob are in the same pants pocket, and if my iPod is on and playing music, my keyfob isn't recognized - and the car door doesn't open. Turn off the iPod - everything works fine. Move the iPod (still playing music) to my shirt pocket - everything works fine.

    Anyone else find this to be true? :eek: I'm guessing that the iPod is emitting RFI that interferes with the smart key system - and am surprised that the SKS is that sensitive.

    This has been established for the iPhone; guess the iPod has the same issue.

    It's the car's way of saying "Is that an iPod in your pocket, or are you happy to see me?"

    Not too uncommon. My wife found she couldn't use her mp3 player while running on the treadmill, or it would interfere with the heart rate monitor.

    It does mention in the owner's manual that certain electronic devices may interfere with the operation of the smart key. I haven't experienced any yet, but it does have a pretty long list of devices.

    Both Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker have told me that their light sabers had the same result. They now have to put them in the other pocket. :D

    Base -> Key = 134kHz
    Key -> Base = 312 - 314mHz
    Any EMF that has frequency that fall within those ranges or (1/2, 1/4, 1/8 .... or 2X, 4X, 8X, ...) are likely to interfere due to secondary harmonics. Many modern chips run at 300-500mHz clock rate. They could emit weak EMF. When put closely with SKS fob, they "talk".

    If you carry a light saber in your pocket, remember to turn it off first.
