So my 2010 Blue Ribbon is suppose to arrive on Thursday. Now just sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for the Cash For Clunkers program to be finalized and given the green light. Going to be a really long couple of days. Even worse is the fact I'm suppose to a road trip on Friday to Cincinnati, would be awesome to do it in my new car.
I'm doing the exact same wait. My III w/ solar is supposed to be in anytime and I'll go in as soon as we can turn in the old car.
I feel your pain. My car arrived at the dealership today. It's sitting there, just waiting for me and cash for clunkers. The dealership is working their way through the things they need to do (some of which don't seem to be clear yet). They're going to get it prepped and I'll get to drive it tomorrow. It will be another sad moment when I have to leave it behind!
My pkg III has been sitting on the lot for two weeks now, and my dealer still can't tell me with certainty the transaction will happen this Friday, but I'm crossing my fingers everything will come together then--the tax-free purchase, and the credit for our van. Here in WA, we only get a tax break for deals completed by July 31. Three days and counting!
Much the same boat here... my IV w/Solar is landing at the dealership on Thursday. Massachusetts sales tax goes up from 5% to 6.25% on August 1st, so with a bit of luck, I can close the deal between the onset of CARS and the end of the lower sales tax rate. Ugh, a logistics nightmare. Of course, the financing bank and I being in one town, which is 150 miles from the dealership, doesn't make things any easier either. I really don't want to make that trip twice if I don't have to. At this point though, I'll do what I have to do to put the deal together!
The benefits of the two cost-saving initiatives outweigh other factors by enough of a margin that I declined to take advantage of Costco's $250 saving through their program, and went with a dealer I felt good about, and who could give me a VIN on an inbound vehicle. The tax benefit is about $2K, and the CARS deal gives us about $1500 more than the trade-in value for the old car. This last week in July is the perfect storm, financially, to buy a Prius!
Yep, that's the same position I'm in. My car should come in around Friday (when the CARS program starts) so hopefully I'll be driving it off the lot then! I'm just hoping that the program DOES start when they predicted it too (24th) and not much later.
Actually, read through some of the other threads here about the Cash for Clunkers program. Dealers are being notified that as of Friday, they can 'register' for the program. Once they are approved, a process which could take 2-3 days, they can begin processing cars under the program. The dealership where I put a deposit on Prius just called me to fill me in on the details. Friday morning, they can register. They wait to be approved and once they are, they get a userid/password they can use to access the system they need to use to process vehicles under the program. My dealership in Chantilly, VA informed me that they expect to be able to process vehicles Monday morning (July 27) at the earliest...
