Hey everyone, I'll make this short and simple.. I've been wanting a Prius for quite some time and I have done a large deal of research about the 2010 model. I have a 1998 Chevy Suburban I'll turn in with the "cash for clunkers" or CARS program to get me a 4500 voucher towards the car. The shipment of Priuses will be in town at the end of the week so, I put a down payment down for a Prius II Blizzard Pearl! I'm super-excited. Anything you guys have to tell me? I've been doing my fair share of looking at these forums long before I registered so I know a good bit of stuff. So, I should have the car by this weekend! Priuschat rocks!
Congratulations. Only thing I will say is enjoy yourself. It's a fun car and you have a million things to learn about it when you actually drive it.
Good for you! You are gonna LOVE it! Really, this forum is an amazing source of information, but read the owner's manual and bookmark the bits that are especially important to you. Then you can turn to those areas easily when you're sitting in the car and playing with the gadgets. Congratulations and :welcome:
Congratulations!! I am planning on putting a deposit down today with a request. When I do this, will I be negotiating a deal then, or when the car comes in? Although I am pretty sure I won't be getting much of a deal since the car I want is not even available in the region. But I guess I can specify that I do not want car mats or added extras or special packages. And I also do not want my car to be used for test drives.
I'll be sure to go over the manual eventually, and to look up stuff I am not sure of. When you put down a down payment it's just reserving the car for you so no one else can buy it when it comes in and such. You don't have to sort out payments and such or anything until the actual car arrives and you pick it up. I couldn't get one dollar off the sticker/msrp so good luck (dealer said they are not allowed). I did not get floor mats either and such, no accessories, the bare car and I still had to pay the MSRP/no deals on floor matts or anything. You should be able to request that your car must not be used for test drives but, I think if there is a down payment they shouldn't let anyone drive it in the first place. Good luck!
Congrats!!!! I just got mine this past sat. You'll love it. Lora regarding your question: I feel the opposite on this. Once you've narrowed down to your car, I'd negotiate with them on what add-ons you want/dont want and what the out the door price is. Once you agree on a price, get a buyer's order from them. This way you don't go through all the waiting period and then not agree on terms once the car arrives. When you negotiate up front, once the car arrives, you've already agreed to terms so it is just picking it up and signing the deal. The way I did it, I negotiated the price and details by phone. Then they sent me the buyer's order (with the ultimate price I wanted) and I agreed to it and gave them my credit card number for a $500 deposit (they never charged it but it made them feel better). With that buyer's order I lined up my bank and Toyota took it off their available inventory (kinda like marking it as sold) and this allowed it to come straight through the port and straight to my dealer in a day. The next day I went, signed the original buyer's order and signed my finance papers and that was that. It would be a nightmare in my opinion to wait all that time and when it does get here, the deal falls through. Protect yourself and your time.
If you dont like beeping in back-up mode or for front passenger seat, ask your dealer to disable it. It´s a matter of 2-3 minutes to change it.
The problem is, they are note selling any Prius III's w/Navi in my region. The closest is 3 hours away. They do not even have the color we want. I've been searching inventory all over, but there are definitely no III's w/NAV around. I do not know how it works and how they would acquire one since they are not available, if the aquire it from another regions allocation??? It's very confusing. I will try and get the $250 off internet special, but the internet guy never got abck to me. I ended up talking to the hybrid expert.
It's pretty darn annoying and several folks are finding that after the sale, dealers will charge you to disable it. If you ask nicely for them to do it as part of their prep before delivery, they likely will not charge you. Just a helpful hint!
That is exactly what I did and why I did. I knew that unless it was part of the deal, it would be hard as hell to have them do it at no charge. Lora, I see your perdicament. I thought that you had not looked out side of your own dealer.
Congratulations! Happy waiting. There is a lot of information in this forum that was useful to me as I waited and learned. But, there is nothing like getting into your new Prius and experiencing the difference from a gas battleship to the Prius. More questions will come to you and you'll be back here searching for answers to questions you aren't even thinking of today. The searches are not hard and the answers are aplenty. Enjoy --TK
Is there really such a color this year as blizzard pearl? I don't see it on toyota's own list of colors. What am I missing? thanks.
I searched 100 miles I think. I put my request in. Now I get to join Lulz in the waiting game.
