i noted in todays wash post car section that several northern virginia dealers have started including the prius in their ads (before now they didn't even mention the prius). One said he 17 cars available for immediate delivery. One had a "price for stock # X is $21.7" or something like that, so supply seems to be catching up with demand here somewhat. Probably still a shortage of Vs, and IIIs and IVs with solar, and the ones in stock probably have some options you don't want. I assume the IIs and IIIs are giong to start being discounted $500 or more off msrp now.
If you have to have it now I think you're kind of stuck. If you're willing to order I went to 3 dealerships and offered a couple hundred over invoice for them to order one for me. The first 2 said the car was in too high of demand blah, blah, blah and the third said sure, no problem. I did end up getting stuck with the cost of advertising a vehicle that will never be advertised but I suppose someone more determined could win that one. Good luck and don't be afraid to call around and ask for the sales manager. Get it straight from the horse.
Well, I got a $400 discount (not much), and a little extra on my trade at Koons arlington toyota for a Prius III. But, the situation was I walked, and they called me back (I said that I might buy at the higher price, but would buy at my price, which was 20K + my car (which had $3500 in equity).
Perhaps, but I have not found any that would deal on the V since so few are available. At least they are not trying to add regional adjustment fees to mark up the car beyond the MSRP. After shopping around, I finally put a down payment on a V at Ourisman. The good news is the car will be in by the end of the month and they are fairly close to our house so it will be convenient to go there for servicing. They also have a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain, if you get you servicing done there.
Be thankful if you're only paying the sticker price. Dub Richardson Toyota in Oklahoma City was told by owner Sonic Automotive to put an additional $4,000 on every 2010 Prius window. Yes, $4,000 over MSRP! This price is non-negotiable. Sonic Automotive is one of the biggest automotive retailers in the country, owning franchises in 15 states: Oklahoma, Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The dealer says it's about low supply and high demand. They say their customers are willing to pay these highway robbery prices. I say they're greedy slime. It upsets me every time I watch a Prius commercial on TV. Fortunately, Honda sold me a Civic Hybrid for $3,500 off (regional sale due to high Insight demand).
I just paid $22,250 for a Prius II with floor mats in SoCal. I used the Cash for Clunkers program and sent my 1998 Rodeo to the pasture...The $4500 came off pre-tax and pre registration, so I offically bought the car for under $18k, which saved me sales tax (huge in CA these days) and registration fees now and into the future...too good to pass up. There was a LOT of activity on the CARS program in LA over the first weekend and it sounds like the money may run out really fast... Mike
There is no such thing as non-negotiable buying any car. All you have to do is wait, sooner or later the price will come down to under MSRP. Can someone tell me any car/model that was never discounted (other than exotics maybe, but I don't know/care about them to begin with)? If you can't or won't wait, you're going to pay for it.
For what it is worth, I bought a Prius V last night off the lot in Richmond for $32,070 which was $700 off the sticker. The car had the Advanced Technology Pkg and carpet floor mats plus the dealer is adding color matched body side molding and the clear bra to the hood and bumper, plus I got $12,500 for my 05 Prius pkg 6 (52K miles). I think buying at the end of the month when dealers are trying to meet quotas helps. They did have a posted waiting list for specific pkg models.
