I just got back from the dealer, I they told me the the manufacture can not produce the solar glass for the sunroof that is why I can not get a IV in Michigan. I think he is full of BULL myself... Anyone have any thoughts on the limited numbers.
I am in Metro-Detroit and I was able to get a IV with solar roof.... I was not all that picky on color, so I told my dealer what I wanted and color was no big deal, but that I would prefer ribbon blue. Well, a short time later, they located my car. I think I got the second 2010 Prius they sold, and the first with a solar roof. It does seem like there is heavy demand for solar roof cars and it seems plausible that Toyota did not anticipate the demand and that they are having a hard time keeping up.... It is also possible that some manufacturing problem has occurred and that this story is the "cover". I remember waiting on a sunroof Plymouth Neon back in 1996. At least Plymouth was honest with me and told me a manufacturing problem was causing the delay.... I never did get my 1996 Neon with a sunroof, ran out of patience and bought a minivan instead....
Have you tried a search for 2010 Prius using AutoTrader.com? I used a Detroit zipcode and found 2 listed over $30,000, which might have solar roof. Try that out, or try another dealer.
Toyota simply wasn't aware that the car would sell so well with the Solar Roof Package. We are short in the Chicago Region and very short on Prius IV ( Solar Roof ) and Prius III with the same package. I am aware that the Chicago Region will increase their build by 30% for August which means we will see you 78 cars vs. 61 imported to the Chicago Region. I did receive an allocation of cars yetersay, we earned our first Prius V with Advanced Tech, but still haven't earned any additional Prius IV with the roof. There is some good news, we've got a Prius III with Nav & Solar Roof arriving here next week. Color is Barecelona Red metallic with tan cloth. Nate
