Cash for Clunkers may be why they just added a premium. Just a thought.

I managed to pick mine up for $500 over invoice (purchased on 06/27/09)...it took a bit of work but they eventually agreed...repeat customer angle worked.

Has anyone else heard that all dealers have two invoices? One they may reveal to the potential customer and one that they keep tucked away.

In any case my math came out to a savings of $635 off MSRP...YMMV

I am shocked at the amount people are paying (or perhaps the amount dealers are asking). Considering the deal I got, I think the difference is whether or not you "order" the car, or wait until there is one on the lot.

It is 9.5% in the Seattle area.

I was having some buyer's remorse after placing my order in late May, wondering if the ample supply building in the pipeline then would lead to more negotiable prices now.

    Now, I'm glad I didn't wait.

I ordered a package V on 23 May at msrp. I was told it would take about 8-12 weeks. I got an email on Monday from another dealer in Queens, NY (where I purchased my '04), offering a package IV for 32,948. fully loaded, which if I priced correctly on the Prius cite, is exactly 2,000. over msrp. I will not pay a penny over, nor will I settle for anything other than the V that I ordered.
I'm in no hurry, as I am enjoying my 2004 very much.

We sent email around to several East Bay (CA) dealers last week and immediately got two quotes for $1000 under MSRP for a Prius III with nav option. The dealership we decided to go with (Walnut Creek) didn't have the color we originally wanted (silver), but my wife decided she liked the Blizzard Pearl better anyway, and the dealer didn't add the $200 extra for the color, so we went for it. No hidden fees, no extra crap.

They did make a little extra money off us since we went ahead and bought the extended warranty and prepaid maintenance from them (they ended up offering us a deal that was a couple hundred more than the total WarrantyShack price for both, and they'd been good about the whole process so I figured I'd give it to them).

No dealer markup and they knocked half off the navigation package because I didn't want it and they wanted to make a sale. So I paid $900 under MSRP.

Hello Welshdog! Thanks again for the Costco referral. I made an appointment with the fleet manager at Champion Toyota. Just curious, did they give you a lead time on your Prius? Many thanks! Sam

I bought mine from Coos Bay Toyota in Oregon for $750 off of MSRP. I got a IV w/o Nav in Blue / Bisque (because they don't sell that configuration in California). An easy process, handled all of the paperwork before hand over a fax machine and was up there within a week to drive my car back down. No add ons or funny stuff. highly recommended:)

I went via the Costco program to a Chantilly Ourisman Toyota in VA and the price I got for package II or III was just over invoice. Not bad at a first glance, but they then add a ridiculous $1,100 in destination and dealer processing, which makes the deal actually about a $1,000 worse than what I can get from other places I've checked. No haggling, but I see advertised prices below that without haggling elsewhere, so why bother with Ourisman ...

I think it depends on the dealership - these guys were way overpriced also on the Corolla we checked out - almost $2K more than elsewhere even with the Costco program. Not sure if that's this one particular dealership or the program is not good.

I still think the Costco program may be worth a try on a case by case basis anyway. My online research pulled some satisfied customers of the program who apparently got good deals thru it with no haggling. Not the "best" deal but say $300-$500 over it but hassle-free. Not the case with my attempt but may work for other dealerships, who knows...

The 4 Costco "identified" sales folks did not communicate with each other - we got separate e-mails/calls from almost each of them with different information included. The guy showing us the cars (not one of these 4 - they had left for the day) had absolutely no clue about any features or any car controls whatsoever... I would not bother with this dealership again.

Is the destination charge the $750 that Toyota charges on all cars in our area or something that this dealership has added?

I think it's the same everywhere in the U.S., the Toyota website lists it.

You have the lowest fee. It is 775 in the southeast area and 805 in Gulf States.

Very nice to deal with, no hassling about financing, matched our credit union's lowest rate, no attempts to push extended warranty, interior/exterior treatments or prepaid maintenance on us. And they were the *only* dealership of the five I talked to that did not add on some options to the car.

I bought mine at MSRP + $750 destination + tax and reg fees.

    25,800 Model IV
    1800 Nav
    220 special color
    51 cargo net
    69 rear bumper applique
220 carpet floor and cargo mats

But hey, they threw in the all weather floor mats and a bottle of blizzard pearl touch-up paint for free!

I tried going thru Costco Auto Buying Program here in Ontario, CA... Apparently they only offer $750 discount on Model 3.

I eventually just gone dealership hooping..
